Hmmm, hope this is not a duplicate....

Need some advice...I'm loving the 48" Yak but....
I mounted a Eflight 480-910KV motor and run a 2200 30C pack, that I know deleivers the goods!

Now in a hover @ about 60% throtle and stationary if I go WOT it bearly pulls it's self out. I treid everything from a 10 X 3.8 to a 12 X 3.8 SF APC props.
Now get this, nothing and I mean nothing gets even warm! Motor, ESC and battery.

Soooo am I under propped here? 13"? I find this strange.

Just considering Mike's Scorpion motor, the 3014-1040 yet it is 1.5 oz's heavier than the e flight 480.

Thanks.

Hum...seems strange that it would hover at 60% and not pull out WOT. But that motor is certainly only rated for anything over 30oz for 3D. Certainly not the 48". Do you have a wattmeter you can check it on? Either way, at that kv rating, I would recommend going to at least a 12x6 and maybe even try a 13x4. How does an 11x5.5 work on it?

A 12x6 sounds like what you should be spinning on there. I'd try a 12x6 and a 12x8 prop to see what power it delivers

Thanks for the replies and tips,. I'll run a watt meter test on a few props later today and post the results.

I had my 48" Extra 330 out last weekend, what a great foamie. I have a power 10 on that I had laying around and a 12x6 apc running 2200's.
I got some video with my hat cam not the best as it was the maiden so I was not down low. But not bad for the maiden. I put more throw in the aileron's cant wait to get it out and ring it out.

Nice video, JD. I despise you folks that taxi out, throttle up, and snap roll on the take off for a maiden flight.

Seriously, nice flying though. I'd be embarassed to show you guys my maidens. Normally, the first 60 seconds are me clicking trims at least a couple tics getting it to fly straight and level.

Looks like you need a tail skid. Just take the end of one of those heavy duty zip ties, cut a slot slightly thinner than the skid, and make it about 2" deep about 1" in front of the rudder, then cut about 4" off the end of the zip tie, and stick it in. You can glue it in if you want using either medium foam safe CA (no kicker) or a dab of epoxy on both sides, then slide it in

Well guys here's my verdict on a Eflight Park 480-920KV motor on 3C 2200 30C packs. for the 48" YAK

DON'T

Ok seriously, I am not crazy about the setup , yet is doable if that's all ya got.

I went with a 12 X 6E APC prop today and found that it would pull it out OK but that is seriously over taxing this motor. Static it pulls 29 amps and the motor is only rated for 20 Amps continuios. I did fly it that way a couple times using some seriuos throtle management, but the motor still comes down to hot.

So I picked up a Scorpion 3014-1040 V2 and just mounted it. Need to go out and do some bench test but....I need to adapt to the extra 1.7 Oz Had my CG spot on the 1/4" behind spar and liked it. At least for now.

I'll post my static numbers in a little bit here.

Well now, with the Scorpion 3014-1040 KV run by a Phoenix 35 Amp esc and a 11 X 4.7 prop were pulling down about 42 Amps and over 400 Watts.

Didn;t even get all the numbers on the 12 X 6E as the Wattage was over 600 and I knew the ESC was thinking about showing me some magic smoke!

Looks like I may have to go up on the ESC here.

Are my batteries just plain giving me to much? LMAO. Such a problem to have, haha

You might want to go with an 11x8E prop. It should give similar thrust results, but draw less amps because the blade isn't as wide as the SF ones

Xpress thanks for the tip. I have just about evey prop I need and then some but no E props on hand. I'll pick a few up.
Just did some wing loading numbers and set the CG.

Mike specs this plane with 644 Sq in and a weight of 28 to 32 oz.
With that said the lightest wing loading is 5.8 and the heaviest of 6.6. (rounded of a tad)

Well with the 3014 mounted and Turnigy 2200 3C I'm at 33.5 Oz's
Which puts me at 7.47 (DAMN)

So I am out fiited with the above mention motor and battery, HS 65 HB servos
and a 6110E receiver and the shortest extensions I could get on.

Don;t see how I could have trimmed the fat any more.

Test flights tomorrow with this new setup, I'm sure it is gonna pull hard but little concerned about how floaty it will be in comparison to my 30oz setup.
