That's about what I get.

I like to keep them down at 17 oz or lighter, but it depends on your style. I just re-weighed my Yak55 and Juka. The lighter you can get them the slower and easier they are going to 3D.

With 1000mah 88 gram lipo *and* gear

Juka 16.9 oz
Yak 55 15.75 oz

My yak 55 is light at 15.4oz. So, to me, a 19oz bird is like a flying brick, by comparison

My weight was with a Digital Postage Scale, so it should be right on. My weight is what it is, now how much I can remove is ?????

You should never have to add weight to get a foamy to balance. Was the weight added to get it to "balance neutral" per spec CG or "balance neutral" in flight.
Yes, it was balanced for "Balance neutral in Flight".

Guessing it is a battery is a good bet, but. My answer to all these questions is always the same. Get it on a Watt meter and see what the system is actually doing.
150 Watts

Ok guys, this is what I can do.
Change from Hitec 555 receiver to lightweight Berg and save .5 oz. This will allow another .5 oz saving since I will be able to remove .5 oz of shot from nose.
Save a Total of 1 oz.

Remove landing gear plates and gear and save close to 1 oz.
Here is the real problem, without the landing gear, need to add about .5 oz weight to nose to balance.
Is .5 oz savings worth it? Will it fly better without wheels?

I could go with a smaller battery pack than the 1320, but again, nose weight.

Thanks

Ed

150watts, do you have the individual #s at full throttle IE; amps and volts.

I've not built a 40" Edge yet, maybe this is a good excuse. Post a pic of the gear placement. Can you move your elev and rudder servos forward.

Ya'll are worse than a bunch of chicks, "Oh no, a plane is over weight!?!? And the sky is falling...."

TP old 1320 3S Pro-Lite LIPO, fully charged

At full throttle

16A
160W
10.35V

I am going to purchase a new battery at the hobby shop. Probably the TP 1350, which is about the same weight as the old one I have

There ya go 10.3v at a 16 amp load indicating a week battery. The guess was write, but it is always nice to actually diagnose the issue. You will probably be closer to 190W on a new 30C+ pack. Let us know how it feels after the new pack.

Ekir, it's possible the postal scale is off. You could use a pint of water=448 grams to check it.

There's a few things I do to keep them light.

For scheme, I've found that the acrylic paints thinned with water and applied in two coats is very light, certainly a lot lighter than the packing tape

1) go easy on the glue! I think CA works well, a little white gorilla glue in the tail and nose. I've seen DWs with so much glue down the joints looks like someone used a caulk gun lol.

2) don't use the provided servo trays and screws. just glue the servo right to the foam. Even better cut a little foam out and pop the servo in.

3) use Z-bends in the servo arms, those ez connectors DW provides are nice but they are heavy, this cuts that weight down 50 %

4) don't use servo extensions, those are heavier than they look. I just cut, splice and tape with blenderm, nothing longer than necessary

5) if you are using gear, don't use metal collars to keep wheel on, just rough up the axle, then use some insulation stripped from wire and a dab of ca.

6) get your esc, battery and motor wires as short as you can and directly solder, ditching the bullet connectors

7) Do *not* skimp on the CF reinforcements, they are very light and are key for a good flying plane

Put all those together and you will be 1.5 oz lighter than the next lady!

Wow Flop, most of that stuff seems pretty obsessive...

My 40" Juka WITH colored tape applied weighed in at about 17.5oz flying with my heaviest pack. That had all of the do-dads too, which included the servo mounts, carbon tail supports, bullet connectors, casing on the receiver, and even a set of 6" extensions..

There's nothing much wrong with the servo mounts, and they keep glue off of your servos

Well just saying, you could get to 16 oz if you did that. Not hard things at all. I take pride in the AUW.

I got a 15.4 oz Yak 55M by just losing the servo mounts

That still has all of the bullet connectors, and casing around the Rx- I could lose even more weight going that route....

OK, now just do the rest of the lightening, and you can add landing gear and be about the same. A proper model has landing gear!
