Finally got off my bum and got the new M5 MX going.

I have still a few small niggles to sort, one of the first is it's reluctance to flick over to the right. Left turns were definitely quicker in transition on the flick.

I tried the front wheel in both settings, though with my numb thumbs, I couldn't tell the difference

Nylon scratchbars were fitted immediately before I even bothered to run, I have seen those plaggy things break so easily. The 5mm stuff is not really strong enough so 6mm or 8mm seems the way to go. However, the 5mm stuff goes nicely into the plastic holders that Anderson fit, with use of a 5.5mm drill bit, and I have it at hand for the KP09e so on it went.

I tried the beach first. A certain no go, the poor thing struggled with the sand I have here, maybe a bit more power over the stock brushed motor is needed, I have seen a few 15 turn motors for less price than the sealed Mardave silvercan, I shall have to lay off the scrumpy and get saved up. I'm not going brushless, with waterproof Mtronix esc's and brushed motors at rock bottom prices, it seems the thing to buy on a budget. I also forgot to mention that the back wheel locked up quite quickly, so maybe sand isn't the best terrain for this bike to be running on. I'll have to wait for the tide to go out and try it on the damp stuff.

Once I can get to an off road track (as hard to find as the tarmac ones here in Lincolnshire ) I'll start looking at the effects of the solid insert over the bumps. On the rough ground that passes for a tarmac car park, it bobbled like hell at times... Maybe a buggy tyre over the carcass of the anderson tyre might help?

I have already convert it to brushless (4800kV motor, 18A ESC and a 2 cell 900mA LiPO)..
The truth and the good thing is that is really alive.
The bad thing is that I have to learn how to steer in higher speeds

Back out on the skate park and then the beach today with the M5 MX.

I'm getting better at turns on the end ramps, finding a good line to hit the middle spine ramps, though a mistake is battering the plastics to pieces!

Out on the beach with an ebbing tide, the grip on damp sand is terrific. I burned up the rest of the lipo charge playing speedway rider.

I did notice though that the gyro spool up was affected by the rear tyre being displaced off the bead. I will have to try to glue it on to help the admittedly underpowered standard brushed motor some chance of coping. It seems the tyre being out of kilter does have quite an effect...

Just back from the local parking.
I don't know how much time I was running the GPV-1, I stop counting at 45 minutes, but my TX batteries exhausted hehehehe.... I count about 1:30 to 2 hours of driving :-)

The brushless conversion works fine on Venom. I had to limit the throttle to 75% because it wheely easily )))

I think the thing that killed it over here, though I maybe wrong, is everyone bought the GPV, found it wasn't as good as Dez had hyped up, then stuck to the 1/5s. When the class was introduced for the nationals, only me and Pitstop turned up to the first meet, and I wasn't racing with the stocker (radio trouble) and he was with a superbike.

End result, no 1/8 class.

M5 MX supermoto. Killed off after a year because of a silly ruling about ramps.

M5 Race. No one brought one I believe.

RTR SB-5. Bet no one brings one this year.

Only sidecars have sustained any length of time, and we will see how long F1 lasts.

The Oto was the best 1/8 bike out there, but as you say all the hype around the venom and its cheap price kind of finished it off, then when the Venom came out and it fell to bits everybody went back to the 1/5s sure if the venom never came out we would of had 1/8 scale racing. I have 2 oto bikes and will never sell them, for me they are a work of art and just run and run, no fancy carbon just alloy and stainless steel fantastic

Just back from the local parking....

A few laps and problem one:

(Too many broken glasses down there... But I saw them later)

And when I replace the wheel...
The rain started!

I guess today is not my day...

very soft tire, very soft insert.. hmm did you unglue it or it did it itself?
If it was ballooning already, then maybe it wasnt glued securely...
And the broken glass just finished it...
Pity....
