Which goggles are you using or have you tried?

I've been looking for an intro set of goggles for FPV, and I find a huge assortment on ebay... some are REALLY bad. They claim to be the best goggles in the world by they are only 320x240 resolution :P.

So, I was just wondering, are there any reasonably inexpensive sets out there that you have tried with success? Surely they are not the best, but what have you found?

I can vouch for fatsharks...
Ive owned the rVisions and theyre ok but the fatsharks seal around your face better and the screens look larger...
I didnt really like the headplays either which another mate has. Defiantly the fatsharks hey!

Well yeah, at $549 I would hope so! Any other options? Is there anything realistically usable in the $200 range?

LOL

nah, the goggles are probably the most expensive thing... but theyre your "eyes" when your flying - important!!

$375.00USD from NGhobbies.com
You get a 10mw TX with it too which are worth $50
If you dont use 2.4 for RC or video then you can wear the goggles and have your groundstation 100meters away - use the 2.4 goggles/TX to make you mobile at the park - You know what I mean??

If you are willing/able to hack, these are looking good for the money.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=925051

I have mine hacked with internal lipo and external audio/video jacks.
Not flown with them yet but tests inside the house show they are at least as good as my $300.00 R-Visions...
EDIT: I can confirm these Trimersion goggles are 640X480 and use Kopin modules.

$299.00
Those would be ok, 640x480 Res.
The other goggles on the website are no good.
Thats the main thing, dont go to the 320x240 or anything else lower then 640x480 otherwise its just a total waste of money

Don't the MyVu's have the dreaded "blue screen" problem?

Check the review on the Trimersion - it sucks :P

Video Quality
The 1-inch 320x240 LCDs are pretty weak. Though adjustments are possible, they don't approach the quality of even standard definition TV.

Not so, that review is false, see my post above and read the thread linked above.

Not sure... blue screen sucks, I dont get it in the fatsharks but my recorder gets it
I could pickup the Boeing scaneagle UAV at a demonstration flight with my fatsharks built in RX, but my recorder couldnt as it was out of sync just a little

GO WITH THE SHARK!

Hehe I skipped that thread cause I thought they were crap (from the false review)
Ive skimmed through it now and they look like a bargain!
I love your modded one..

So which goggles have you had a go of?
Can you compare the trimersion to another set when used for FPV? (not movies and games)

I have only ever flown with the R-Visions sold at Range Video.

Not had a chance to try the Trimersions yet, except for watching a few minutes of a movie.

The Trimersions look pretty good, at least as good, if not better than the R-Visions, except the FOV seems smaller on the Trimersions. (it may not be, IDK)

But then, the R-Visions seem to have an "artificially wide" FOV and have image distortion around the edges.
I think they played tricks with the lens' to give a "wider FOV"

The Trimersions have no such distortion and seem to have a cleaner, crisper image, albeit apparently smaller FOV.

Both Trimersions and R-Visions seem to have the same Kopin module, I have opened both, but not side by side.

I think the difference is all in the lens'.

But I do like the Trimersion headset, it is very comfortable for me and blocks out almost ALL light.

Some had trouble with the headset being too small, but easily modded to fit.

By comparasion the R-Visions light shield is a joke. I mounted mine in some old ski goggles.

For the price I paid for the Trimersions, I am very happy... so far....

EDIT: More on the lens/FOV issue....

Just had a thought... The R-Visions seem to be sensitive to position/distance from your eyes.
Maybe because of the lens/FOV ?

The Trimersions seem much less sensitive (at least to me) of how well they are positioned to your eyes.

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I just bought a pair, although not for the deal you guys got as I am late to the game. I paid $99 for them (with free shipping) but even that is a good deal as the goggles look to be made very well.

Seller is in my state so I should have them in a couple of days. I am willing to hack them, no problem at all. Maybe I'll even figure out how to take advantage of the head tracker gyro... I've done some microcontroller programming, so maybe I can whip something up.

Thanks

Glad to help.

Beware some have had problems with the gun/controller emitting smoke and nasty smells...

Might want to open up the gun before putting batts in and have a look.

No trouble with mine, I did put batts in the gun and test goggles with it.

Potential to fry the goggles from the gun problem.... IDK

Just a heads up...
