Yea, that's what I thought......maybe the escapade 61 would be better suited for it.......it's a little cheaper too...

Maiden...sortof

Took mine out yesterday for the first tme, perfect no wind day. I drove it around a bit at a fast"ish" pace to see how it was on the ground, tracks perfectly. Then ramped up the throttle a few times and reached just the point of lift off...and chickened out. Never actually flew. Here's my question. I have recommended throws set in both high and low rates...but (at least visually) the low rates seem to very low. Can anybody comment on how the plane handles at the low rates? How responsive is the plane...? Thank you.

The plane handles very well on low rates. I always use low rates for takeoff and landing. Loops and rolls on low rates are fine. You really don't need high rates for sport flying.

Low rates will give you a nice, easy to control, aircraft. High rates are very responsive. The stated throws in the manual are very good. BTW, I use high rates for most of my flying including the landing.

It's a wonderful plane, and a great flyer. You need to fly it to the ground, and be attentive to your speed, to keep it from bouncing, as it has a very slick airframe. Pay attention, and it will slow down nicely.

Low rates worked fine... a bit soft but well within control. I also use the high rates for all my flights. I've settled on 8s 17*12 scropion 4035-250 / 9.5 lbs.... IMHO a perfect sport setup.

AUW is 9.5 - 10.5 pounds...

2000 watts would be more then enough, and then some

I was worried that even the low rates are touchy. I flew a Sukhoi not too long ago at the recommended low rates, and they were still too extreme for first flights.

The 4035 series is perfect! 8mm shaft as well. The collet has 4 slots and holds very well. 2000 watts would be crazy vertical

Let us know how it works out for you Garrett.

I found the NTM Prop Drive 50-50 580KV / 2000W on the website, and I see the power figures you posted are HK's figures. I have not had very good luck confirming the numbers that HK issues for their motors. Perhaps, if you have time, you could share your test measurements with us.

Maiden!

Flew mine yesterday for the 1st time and then later on in the afternoon, twice more. I am so impressed with how well it flies. Low rates were perfect for the first flights. Landings were good too, a bit faster than what I am used to. I fly large sailplanes and I am used to bringing in planes low and from far away for landings.
I'm running the Rimfire 80, a 15x7 apc, and 6s 5000mah batteries and it seemed the last 1/3 or 1/4 throttle added nothing to the speed of the plane. It almost sounded like the prop was cavitating. Not a big deal for now though, I want a few more mellow flights under my belt.
