It seems like all things steam stem from overseas! Here are a couple of inexpensive, entry level scratch built models from (of all places) English model boat magazines. Even two of the engines are imports. Is there anything better than seeing steam boats on the water? jda

Just so new members will not be discouraged by all the masterpieces here I thought I would post mine. Lily is based on a stretched and broadened Mabel design by Basil Harley from model boats magazine, she is a test bed for boilers and engines and is on her third boiler and fourth burner. I am also working (very slowly) on a Midwest Fantail II with a Kitchen Rudder.
Regards,
Gerald.

Steamboatmodel, your Mabel design is the same as my first picture. What an easy build and what a sweet running boat. We can't get the Model Boat magazine anymore in the states. I have saved a bunch of plans from those magazines. The Brits have some great builders.

Here is my meager 1st steam model, the ubiquitous Midwest Elliott Bay launch.

Meager, nothing! For a single-acting, single cylinder miniscule displacement engine, your Elliot Bay runs and looks great!

Krick Patricia, about 20 years old - Original and present engine: 2 cyl double-acting, piston valves (possibly a Wilesco); replacement boiler from Sandy Campbell, ACS Engineering, Scotland. The replacement copper boiler is heavier than the original German brass boiler, so the launch rides deeper. Lesson - Don't epoxy-in your lead ballast. Runs better with the ACS boiler and it's ceramic burner. Best cruise ever - Bumblebee pond, a dip in our pasture that flooded one year :-)

A.J. Goddard - Engine: Midwest Heritage 1 cyl single-acting oscillator; Boiler: Midwest Heritage single flue converted to pot-style, with ceramic burner.

Here is my Alexandra...powered by a Graupner twin... she is about 40" x 7". No fabulous photo's but a here she is... my first steam boat modeling.

The Saloon top removed

She has a sticker on the aft that says "London Shipwrights" ???

This was her original state when I got her-- not finished out much..I have never built from scratch or actually done a kit... but I like to tinker.

I have seen many of the other boats here and am humbled --Bernhard and Duncan do some amazing work!

Here are a couple of my first little steamers..

A Bowman Snipe from about 1937-39 and a Modeen River Princess that I took some liberties with ...I restored the Snipe and rebuilt the Modeen--to a "tug" if you would allow that description..they are about 24" long

I

will figure out how to post smaller pictures soon...Sorry
Fun places to start learning about how to work with hulls , engines and R/C( the tug is single channel)

I will see if this works for the smaller images like the rest of you pro's

This is a little old clockwork boat that got an old Mamod boiler and little Stuart single thrown in and continues to be an experiment

Well that still didn't work ......?? Sorry
EDIT: I think I figures it out.You all use the ATTACHMENTS paperclip method and so download your pic's from your computer instead of your photobucket / Flciker etc..Sine most of the forums I frequent require my photos to be from a online storage area..is there a way to use the attachment feature( which keeps the size nice and tight and easier to page load) from my Photobucket account??

THANKS

Anyway- Thanks for not laughing to much at my entry level stuff....I love steam boating and learning is so enjoyable...
