GWS A-4 Pusher - New life for an old friend
About two years ago I built a GWS A-4 as a ducted fan and had a lot of fun with it but eventually I dorked it and since it has been a hangar queen and the power plant went into something else. I was looking her over the other day languishing in the shop and I decided to refit her with a high speed pusher set- up.
Here is my set up:
2700 KV Hobby City Inrunner
2) 4 cell 2200 zippy packs in parallel for 4400 mAh (need that much up front to balance her out)
80 Amp Hexatronic ESC
BEC W/ 600mAh lipoly
I was inspired by the high kv funjet videos of those birds going like scat, I thought that my old "Afer" would be a good canidate. I will try and get her up tomorrow weather permitting. I do need to add a prop saver on the bottom to get ROG takeoffs.
Well I think I finally have her airworthy. I put my watt meter on it and at WOT it draws 51 amps and produces 761 watts of power.
I am using a hobbycity eprop 6x 6 which produces a crazy amount of thrust.
My final set up is:
2) 4 cell 2200 30-40 c lipos wired parallel
80amp ESC w/BEC
AUW: 3lbs 14 oz (which includes 1.75 ounces of lead in the nose to get her to balance out.
This thing is heavy but this power setup is producing close to or more than a 1 to 1 thrust to weight ratio. I will try and fly it tomorrow. Should be a hoot.
