So Cal FPV Aviators

So I see all of these UK, AU & Everywhere else meet and greets for FPV & but never once have I seen anything for Southern California.

Ya know the forums are nice to get info & see everyone elses setup - but it can be a bit depressing having no one to talk shop with - in real life. Its like your the only one in the world that knows about this.

When you go to a local fly park, everyone is amazed by your setup but your always having explain everything about FPV all over again -they're like some little kid at the local park asking you 100 questions about R/C in general. Its the same thing except for FPV!

There is a ton of undeveloped land owned by no one in Palmdale, CA. Just miles and miles of desert & flat land that no one would bother you on. I think it would be the perfect place for an FPV meet. Im in Santa Clarita so its about a 30 min drive for me.

Lodging in Ridgecrest, CA - Check out Motel 6 @ $46 for the night!

I looked at the official parks website and they said in early March to late April, the flowers bloom so you can have some awesome color in the cameras! I've got some cool ideas for events as well.

1 mile speed sprint. Bring your fastest plane -first one to a mile wins!

4 plane -2 mile formation & endurance flight. Just keep an eye on each other!

For each event we can strap big numbers to the top and bottom of the wings + some uniquely colored streamers. Like Blue, Red, White & Yellow. The longer the streamers, the easier we can find each other. Plus, we can look down and over to check the numbers to see whose flyin. It would be awesome!
Events start at 10 am!

Alright guys, get your Go Pro's and all your best cameras and recording gear. This meets gonna be hot!!

Totally down... weekdays are better than weekends for me... but I'll make any necessary plans...

Sounds like the beginning of a SoCal club or at least a bunch of new friends...

Awesome! Anyone else? I'm trying to get together about at least 10 fpv'ers. I was hopin for at least 2wice a month, but an official flying spot where everyone can just get together regularly would be awesome.

Ok cool, some for the weekday and some for weekends.

By the way, I suggested Palmdale because its a large open area and it just goes on for miles, but its not set in stone. Its still a half hour drive for me.

Anyone else have any recommendations for large open areas that we arent on someones land?

I can go north, south east or west from me. If its a half hour to an hour.

Keep me in the loop! I don't have an FPV rig yet but I can bring food or something. Being around a group of FPVers would definitely encourage me to finally get mine underway.

Yea, as much as id love to fly at a large abandoned base, unfortunately Monterey is about 4 hrs north of santa clarita and even farther for LA people. Its a Socal meet and greet.

Maybe u can start a NoCal Meet & greet?

I know, hence the same reason I started this thread. I dont know ANYONE that flys FPV. But I put this up and in just a few hrs we've got guys from all over willing to meet.

I'll bet u if you start a NoCal Meet and Greet thread you'd find some fellow FPV'ers as well.

I'd drive up north to film Monterey and Sonoma... Much more photogenic than Palmdale... Don't get me wrong: I love the big sky of Palmdale.

Perhaps a split of the difference and we meet in Santa Barbara... coastline, missions, mountains... great FPV scenery...

Ya I suggested Palmdale as not just the meet and greet but also as a regular flying spot for fpv guys to get together. I agree 100% that's the scenery isn't as nice, I mean it is the desert. But also too I was thinking about less obsticles and land that's owned by noone. Santa Barbara is gorgeous, but where could u fly and not have mountains trees houses and every other obsticle in your way for take off, landing and pilot error? Big open Areas not owned by Anyone?
