Help me identify this please

This plane was given to me with broken wing as you see repaired in white. It was a hangar orphan, pased through several owners before I got it from a friend who never flew it himself and didn't know what it is. It had previously been flown as an electric pusher and a glow (.25 judging by the mount that was att up front). The servos and rods were on the bottom of the wing, I moved them to the top to prevent damage. It goes like a rocket, but is easy to land. Others at the field often comment on it and ask what it is. I don't know!!!

Thanks for any clues (It is yellow on the bottom of the wings with decals of a cobra head and a spider web) Wing span about 36 inches

Thanks - vic

It sure could be a kit bashed Shrike. In fact the guy that gave it to me said he thought it was a Shrike (he wasn't the builder however), but my buddies said they didn't think so. It has elevon control, no elevator which I think a Shrike has.

I have a HK motor no longer in supply, it is 1750kv about 5oz weight (another Axi 2820 "equivalent"). Turns a 8x8E prop, 3S 2200ma lipo, 50 amp esc. I recently put in a separate 5amp UBEC so I can push it to 4S

Thanks for the input

the shrike i have "and normally built kits" do have an elevator its normal for them but they do work very well on elevon when modified as yours is.. from the looks of it.. its a wing section built from a shrike plan then modified to the builders liking..

none the less they are VERY slick airframes and fast.. yours is the bigger version.. mine is a 24" 1/2A/speed 400 version

First, thanks for your feedback and the picture. Yours looks very well built and in pristine condition.

Mine flies just great with elevons -I have two 19g metal gear digital HK servos. A big advantage is that there are no servos inside the fuse, which leaves a big open space for battery and electronics.

I must say that this is my only plane where people stop what they are doing and watch it fly! I really need to recover that ugly repair, but I didn't think it would last as long as it has. Also it flies in winds when other guys pack up and leave.

I don't know how fast it is, but it keeps you focused! There are similar power trains in Viper 500 Quickies that go 150mph, but this has thicker wings I think. I'll have to get radar test sometime

yup these are definitely a crowd pleaser i love mine and i really like the design of yours i may have to steal some ideas from you on that :P "or well the original builder"

i would just convert mine to elevon like yours but i had mine built and there was a very minor mistake in the build.. the builder got a bit of glue in the tq rod "my servos are inboard" so i run a single aileron and the elevator... without any nasty effects to its flight characteristics

the builder felt so bad about it lol.. but i actually like it better this way its unique and one of a kind and just more fun the old timers always give me a funny look when i test my surfaces and only one aileron is working

as for your speed if you can get a video of it "camera NOT chasing it" where you just pass the camera full tilt alot of us have doppler programs we can get you a rather accurate speed from the program

Yep - there's an electric Viper build thread somewhere here - that was the target speed, I didn't read to the end but I know they got close. I was looking because Tower has a few bucks off the RTC version right now. The electric versions have less drag so go for it!

The fixed horizontal stabilizer on mine is possibly what will let go if I get over 100. It doesn't flutter at all but if I go 4 cell it might

Yeah, I don't disagree, but that video was taken with a point and shoot camera, and my point was really that it was NOT 100mph. Tried again yesterday with a videocam and actually see a bit faster, but the problem is that it's not a very loud airplane. We'll get a radar gun out at the field soon and we'll run a bunch of planes

But just as a sanity check, the flight path is about .16 miles (checked Google Earth) and the video time is about 5 seconds - that would be 115 mph. I might be overestimating the flight path, but in the video you might just see a little dot turning left away from the sun, that's pretty far out.

I'll post radar results when I get them, and also try 4S power at that time
