The Ellipso Lite & The Ellipso Lite Bipe - indoor/outdoor Yard Flyers
The only thing better, showing up at an indoor flight meet with a really good model is showing up with two or three really good indoor flyers, and here is yet another design. During winter, while the weather outside is frightful for foamies, pilots thoughts turn to designing, building and also flying indoor models. Every model designer and scratchbuilder has to have an indoor blue wonder model in his fleet and here is my contribution. Staying with my trademark Ellipso Aero designs I present to you the ‘Ellipso Lite’. Maybe I should have named it the Ellipso Slow because it sure is slow. A fun to build and fly 30 inch wing span cutie.
The Ellipso Lite can be built as a RET (Rudder, Elevator & Throttle) with dihedral in the wing or it can be built without dihedral and ailerons (full controls) for the rock star pilots that want to do all the 3D aerobatics. You may fly the Ellipso Lite as is or install the wing incidense block under the LE of the RET wing for even slower flying or under the TE of the aileron wing for other effects of aerobatic flying. The landing gear is attached with Velcro so it is easily removed to fly without LG or to install floats, skis or larger wheels for outdoor flying. The LG has a rubber band shock absorber that can be adjusted for stiff or soft gear but strong enough to handle hard landings and not damage the undercarriage. This little profile fuselage model can be quickly built with two options for the fuselage. You can cut out the fuselage with a tail skid which may be lighter or you can have the conventional tail wheel. Because the wing and LG are removable it is easy to pack and take with you on trips. A hotel parking lot is all you need to fly this little guy. The Ellipso Lite can be built using EPP, FFF, Depron or many other foam choices. The Ellipso Lite Bipe only has eight pieces to cut out of foam and this makes for a quick build. The lower wing, lower fuselage and stablizer/elevator are all cut together. The parts snap together so with a little glue you'll be flying in no time. The I beam fuselage makes for a strong design but light weight. With 4 ailerons this little bipe performs great in a small area. The wings are not removable so it may not travel as easy as the Ellipso Lite but the enhanced controls and fun of flying your very own biplane may be wroth building this great little model. Because this is my first Sketch-Up designs and because these are indoor flyers I posted them here instead of on the Ellipso Aero thread. That thread has many other models (outdoor flyers) and can be found here. This hobby has given me many hours of pleasure and many friends that share the same fun. If I had never posted any of my designs it was still wroth the fun but it is my desire that you will find pleasure in one of my designs and if I have past a little excitement and fun along to others then that is a good thing. I hope you’ll build the Ellipso Lite or one of the other models and enjoy many hours of fun filled flying as I have enjoyed. Dalton |
