My build plan

So here is my build plan:

The plane (of course);

Motor - http://www.hobbypartz.com/alpha-300-...ess-motor.html

ESC - http://www.hobbypartz.com/vose10abresc.html

Battery - http://www.hobbypartz.com/71810clireba.html

Servos not sure yet, these are what the manual calls for but they are pricey - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1p?&I=GPMM1200

Using a cheap 2.4g tx/rx setup.

I noticed that the motor mount fits kinda tight into the cowling on the front of the plane. I may have to trim some away in order to screw the mount into the firewall. Will also have to trim some of the battery tray away as well to make room for the shaft.

Should I use the spinner included with the motor or should i use a prop saver?

Someone needs to go with the recommended equipment, I like to see how the plane performs when setup using the recommended equipment before I drop in a 12513984256193465:1 power to weight system

Hey....would it be possible to use a standard-sized receiver. I can shed some weight with battery selection and take the outside receiver case off? THANKS

Maidened this plane today after 6 months. Man it is easy to fly! It just floats, like it or not ... the hardest part was getting the plane down out of the air ... you have to nose down and give throttle to bring it in!

Plane is so so light ... in fact I am getting heavier higher mah batteries to both increase flight time and to weight down the nose a bit ...

Have you tried just floating it down without throttle? Keep it balanced between stalling and gliding, and it sounds like it'll float down nice and easy.

oh yea, dead stick flight is easy with this ... but i honestly think the plane was thermalling a bit - it would spontaneously rise up a few feet at a time ... the field was just starting to heat up early in the morning ...

Ah, I see. Yeah, that wing loading on it is kind of nuts.

I'm used to planes a little bigger that typically have higher wing loading. But for it's size, this plane still sounds really light.

Yeah I think I am going to get a much heavier battery, about 600 - 800mah, to keep the nose weight up and get some more flight time ...

My 5th grade students and I built seven of these. We used the Power-Up 800mAh packs from headsuprc.com. They balanced spot on with those. I also know several who are flying TP 1320s with no problem, although they had to carve out a bit of the foam to fit.
