New Series of 50mm EDFs from JPower! 08/10/12 ~ New Screamer and Katana Sport Jets

The folks over at JPower/Sky Angel have been working on an entirely new product line. It is a series of "Mini" 50mm EDFs. They plan to eventually have a total of 10 different models available in this same size class. The first four to be produced will include a F-18, a F-16, a F-86 and the AMX, in the same color scheme as the larger 64mm JPower AMX. I am told that they will include a desk top stand so you can set them on the shelf when not flying them. Battery size is a 800mAH 3S class pack. I hope to have additional specifications info soon and will post it as I get it.

I should have all four of these in the next week or so, at which time I will start flight testing and of course .... I will post LOTS of photos and some video too.

EDIT (08/10/12) ~ The latest two offerings in the product line are the Screamer, a delta winged sport jet, and the Katana, a conventional winged sport jet that looks a lot like the BVM sport jets. Bret Becker's Electrolyte Jet may have also played a key role in Sky Angel bringing this one to market? Nick over at HobbyB.com is making a real commitment to being the goto shop for all of the Sky Angel product lines. Here is a video of a bone stock Katana. It does pretty well on the stock EDF. Wait til we stuff a Don's Wicked combo in one of the bare airframes!

Unfortunately for both the Hobby-Lobby F-86 and this one they share one feature that will keep me from buying either one. Why do they feel the need design an intake with 200% FSA when it has been shown time and time again to not be needed?

Yeah, there is just no way I would ever be caught dead flying a RC EDF model that is not 105% scale!!

For those of you so worried about whether a model is absolutely 105% "scale", may I suggest you consider models that cost more than 100-200 bucks?! Scale models are available...but they cost a little more.

Maybe as time goes some of these manufacturers will work on "tuning" their products to adjust the minor deviations from the real planes but I for one am growing weary of folks chanting "It's not scale!", at this price point?! Seems to be chic to post that in any thread for any plane right now. Enough please!

Agreed...its preety scale to my eye and my flying style...

Yea - so what?

And I for one am tired of all the people saying - "so what if it's not scale - it's cheap"

What does cost have to do with it? If it's a scale model - make it scale. Don't half a$$ it!

I am in this hobby because it is fun. If some of you have your "fun" ruined because a plane doesn't look 100% scale, FINE. That is your choice. Exercise your choice with your wallet. Ffor all of you "scale purists", do you fly all of your models in a scale fashion. I have a feeling the answer is no. What is thje difference between that and a model that is not 100% scale. God forbid the day I turn my nose up at a hobby product because it looks slightly different than the real plane it is modeled after! At that point, I think the fun will be gone.

Now, I did NOT start this thread to debate whether said new product is scale. So, please, let it go.

These look awesome! Just what I've been wanting, some front yard EDF action!

IMO, as things get smaller the ability and or effort required to keep things 100% 'scale' gets much harder .... for lots of reasons. I for one can't wait to get my hands on one of these badboys!

I love me some J-Power...whatever you do, I mustn't know where to get and the price, I'll buy all 10. J-Power makes about the best budget friendly EDF's going.

UPDATE:

The lipo is actually a 850 3S ... and there will ultimately be TWENTY different jets in this series, not ten.

Jon,

What is the approximate price point of these jets? What different options will it come with, e.g. RTF, PNP, BNF, ARF, etc?

I don't own an EDF...yet...but really curious about the possibility...
