FYI
That's strange. I pulled my modified Hacker A10-15s out of my Relax2 and weighed it. It weighs 11.6 grams with mount and pulls my 123 gram Relax2 (seen in video) without any problem. I beleive it weighed close to 11 gm without the mount.

This was my first attempt to lighten any motor and I think I could have gone a lot lighter.

What could have gone wrong with your friends A10-15S mod?

Here my "tuning" of the motor Hacker A10-15S
Му plane weighs about 90 grams.
According to video it is visible that power not enough.

probably reason not in the motor, and in the cheap Chinese noname controler,or prop 9x2 too big.
In the next season I will replace the motor and the controler, then it will be possible to do conclusions.

AWS,

Here is some info on my A10-15S mod.

I wish I had seen your mod before I had done mine. Some better Ideas with yours.

The problem I encountered with my mod was that I got a lot of metal shavings between the magnets from lathing the bell (?) diameter. It took me quite a lot of time to get all the metal shavings out from between the magnets.

I put together a test stand and ran the motor this morning. Results posted. Don't know if this will help you determine why your motor seems weak.

. I had used a different controller in my Relax2 and the motor would not start all the time (hand slap to start) but ran without any problems. I ran this test with a Turnigy 6A and had no problems with motor starting.

Hope this helps.

George

George, look at my stand

Description:
Hacker with prop 9х2
middle I=1,75A rpm=3000 trust=90gr
at max I=2,75A rpm=4500 trust=145g

my next motor has more diameter of rotor than Hacker and weight 12g, but
prop 9x2
middle I=1.5A rpm=3000 trust=90g
max I=2,5A rpm=4800 trust=165g
George, current 5А and a battery 360ma too much for f3p, I use batteries 120mа
I think that Hacker is bad motor for big prop(9inch) and small current, because the small size rotor.
It is necessary a little bit more rotor and everything will be OK.

Hi ASW.
Let me explain, I'm not a contest flyer, I'm almost 70 , just really like to build different aircraft and enjoy modifying just about everything. Also, I'm not a very good flyer.

I understand, as a contest flyer, your concern for light weight. I also use Hyperion 120 G3 cells rated at 25/45 C for some of my smaller aircraft but my Relax2 is a little over weight so it is set up to use the 360 pack. I'm not proud of how heavy it turned out but it really flies well at 123 gm.

The reason I got involved in the A10-15S conversation is that back in post 346 Lantsov infered that your modifacation of the A10-15S caused it to have "little pulls" and I find that mine appears to perform just as well as a stock A10-15S.
If you could, to put this contraversy to rest, run a GWS EP-8043 and let me know the results. I would run a 9x2 here but I don't have on.

BTW, nice test stand. I'll have to think about building one.

I just wanted to bump the questions below as I never saw a reply.....

It seems these 'magic' silver tubes are one of the keys to pulling this techique off....

Sounds like your using an inside mold and pressurizing, I assume the mylar prevents the pressure from migrating thru the cloth so it is like vaccuum bagging in reverse.
How is the finished tube removed? Is a release agent involved?
"Insert inside the matrix"? sounds simple, just try it with a one meter noodle, NOT easy unless you have figured a solution.
Perhaps A. Kashkin could provide some photographs of the process
and last question is the matrix heated to cure the resin?
