"Ladies and Gentlemen The Rolling Stones" is released this week globally. Ten years ago i went to watch 114 films during one single year. I got all the ticketends saved. Now i have not watched a single film in two years. Two years ago it was Stones-film Shine a Light, and seems it will be the same subject again.

The Secret in Their Eyes, the Oscar winning crime thriller from Argentina, is just excellent. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1305806/

Earlier in this thread, the movie "A Clockwork Orange" was brought up. Several stated that they just didn't get it...or "what was the point?"

Some movies are for pure entertainment and others are written to make you think. A Clockwork Orange is definitely not for everyone. Like many Kubrick films, you have to work at it to "get it."

Here is the central theme of A Clockwork Orange...it asks this one basic question:

You will recall that the government had developed a drug that would insure that violent people would be subdued to a point that they would not be a threat to society.

Is is morally or ethically right for a government to force this drug on people they feel will be a threat to society sometime in the future?

When the movie came out it was heavily criticized for how much violence was shown. The critics didn't get it...that was the point of the movie...violence, pure unedited and raw violence. The characters were meant to be so violent that the idea of a drug being forced on them by the government actually would be something to consider.

A Clockwork Orange was disturbing in the same way "Taxi Driver" was disturbing. It is meant to cause you angst and anxiety. The overall social question of a government's role in protecting the people from violence by others by forcing "nonviolent" drugs on its people is a profound question and one that is becoming closer to reality every day.

Kubrick was way ahead of his time.

Oh...almost forgot...

"There Will Be Blood" - Probably the best movie of the year Daniel-Day Lewis is the best actor of our generation.
"No Country For Old Men - Another outstanding film. This is another film that you have to "figure out."

Watching "Shallow Hal" right now...

This is a great movie. It is not only entertaining but it makes one think. What is "beauty"? Jack Black is very funny.

watched two movies last night.
Sherlock Holmes and Couples Retreat.

Sherlock was pretty good. R. Downey did a good job.
Couples Retreat had some funny moments. it has a good message at the end.

I took the family out for dinner and a movie last night. Well, actually, the wife did, I guess, as I never took my wallet out once.

Anyways, the movie du jour was Megamind 3D. Pretty good for a kid's movie!
