Looks great mclarkson. How does it feel in the air.

It feels pretty good. Gets a bit twitchy when I try to slow it down toooo much.

Since this is about light and slow strykers could anything be gained from vortex generators and or bigger elevons?

That was cool. When we have enough wind, I try to slowly fly my planes backwards. An ocean breeze would be much nicer than gusty wind over a wheatfield. :jealous:

Argh! My motor's going bad after all of about 8 flights.

I was getting an awful lot of stutter at very low throttle. I found this thread, which implied it's fairly normal so I didn't worry about it. Last night, halfway through a flight, it began to make weird rattling / buzzing noises. I think the bearings are going (though I'm no expert - I know the motor shouldn't make that sound...)

The irony is that the motor bearings in my 'real' Stryker just started going out too. Must be a problem with the airframe!

Mclarkson, I have to commend you on some wonderful background music. I just bought a copy of "The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" about a month ago. I've been a fan of Fleetwood Mac since the mid 1970's but have only just now discovered the pre-Buckingham/Nicks era. You have good taste in music!

I made a light stryker for my brother as a trainer. He has a champ and a supercub and wanted something a little more agile. I tried a tried to be simple and use more stock parts and see how light I could go. I used the stock body, stock fins, and stock elevons. I use the blue wonder 1500 with an 8x4 prop, two 9 oz servos, 10 amp esc and 800 ma 3s battery. I used the stick mount seen earlier in this tread. The total 12.5 oz with battery. Not bad. . I flies pretty good. It wont slow down as slow as my 10 oz stryker but that was not the point. It is a good slow to med speed tough trainer that is easy to fix. I set the elevons up with low throws and will increased them as he get better. HE flies it well. He has broke the nose off (I just glue the nose on usually) a couple of times but a squirt of hot glue and he is back in the air. A fun fast build.

Looks great. That's as light as mine, but I blame it on the lights.

Does anyone have any thoughts on slowing this bird down some more? I am constantly flirting with a stall on mine, trying to go as slowly as possible.

I know lightening the airframe will help somewhat, but I was thinking about maybe canards? Or some sort of flap-like extensions?
