John,
Thanks.. in practical terms I believe you are 100% correct.. I've occasionally checked the approximate time in my head that it takes me to hit the favored pin at the start line a few times.. but you're right .. you need to go farther say to weather or straight down wind to really tell, especially at our pond where its winds are so shifty even that varies a lot. I don't know how to measure it any way other than direct comparisons against an IOM in real time either... my problem is it's only a couple times a week i get to sail against others.. and often they are in ODOMs and Soling 50's so there's no meaningful direct comparison..

Carrying a stopwatch to time arbitrary runs to selected points seems impractical and likely ineffective too... but I hope it doesn't hurt to ask..

How these hull designers do it is a real mystery too..it must take hours of time on the water and keen observation skills to get an optimal design.

Thank you Olivier i made a guess and put it at 60mm doing this to my Lintel to see what it's like built new blue rig and used one of Pierre's goosenecks which are very short allowing you to do this,if i don't like it i will just put back on a sleeve on the bottom of the mast.We have the breeze for this and other Tugs to sail against .Thanks
