Thanks Tony, there's a 42mm self tensioning drum available but it dont say if it can be used on the 280,RMG recomends using only the 32mm on the EF or the 55mm spiral but not the 42mm.Looks good as it comes with LH RH springs and also has pins so it can be used as a standard drum interesting.

Nothing against the Italian winches but what are you guys looking for that is better than a RMG? Is it the brushless motor or speed?

My experience with Rob is so good I would have a tough time not using his products.

The one shown in Mike's link is powered by the ubiquitous Mabuchi Speed 280 brushed motor. So nothing special in that respect.

I also like the original RMG. There is a long history of reliable performance. Rob Gyuatt is super helpful and always provides winches and other sponsorships for major races all over the world. Something doesn't feel right about buying copies to me.

Closest version of a britpop seen yet. Pinch the bow in at deck level, lower the deck line in the back and widen the back a little. Nothing new here and no suprises it sails well in good hands.

Think i will stick with Rob at RMG, never had any trouble with my 280 ES and big drum but i do sail a completely dry boat aswell.
I believe RMG aftersales care is brilliant but have not had first hand experiance of it as i have never had a faulty winch in 6 odd years of usage.

Just becoming familiar with my first IOM Carving Designed by Luca Nardo (ITA-09), was the fastest of the three built with internal ballast of over three hundred grams and handles perfectly with neutral helm balance.

Fourth boat now on the water and posted its first win in major regatta in Italy.

I totally agree with you guys Rob has been great for our sport great man to deal with he fixes em a gives great advise always have had great time dealing with him,his 280EF is hard to beat for my personal prefrrence outside of that i prefer the older D series. All of my boats have RMG holes in em so i'm not about to redrill nothing, but it's just plain fun seeing what's on the horizon.
