Christmas came a little early today when my new rudder servo arrived. It's a Futaba 9650 bought off ebay for under half RRP. It's a great size being smaller than a standard servo yet large enough to have 4.5kg-cm at 6.0V and only weighs 26 grams, it's not that slow either 0.11sec/60deg at 6.0V. It's just a pity the guy controlling it wasn't better
I've also added a couple of progress photo's

Finished installing the foredeck fittings and glued the foredeck to the hull today. I also took one last photo of the aft deck internals. You'll notice there is no diagonal bracing from the deck to the foot of the mast case. In this case it isn't required as the mast case and fin box is well supported by the deck construction and the shrouds will terminate in the hull sides where an additional to layers of glass will dispense the loads. You can just see the two small blocks of hardwood where the shrouds will terminate.
In the other photo the aluminium tube will house the jib sheet from the deck bulkhead to the foredeck and the wire twisted around the mast ram locating tube is the underside of No 2 jib sheet fairlead loop

I had been expecting to make a fibre glass mould for the bow bumper. However, after spending most of yesterday afternoon helping to build a Lego Fire Station, Helicopter and Fire Engine I guess it was time to re think!
Lego and Play Dough I hope will do the job

It worked!
The edges will be tidied up once it is fixed to the bow using latex glue

I have tried bathroom silicone and it never wants to dry in the middle? I have let it sit for days?

Hi AB,
Sorry I meant for glueing the bumper to the hull.

FWAL,
What did you use for the bumper?

Hi Mike
I have used fairly cheap white silicone and it is a little soft in the middle but I don't think it will affect performance, not enough that I would notice. I wasn't sure what else was readily available.
I'm only using latex because it's in my garage and cures hard enough to sand making a nice flush joint between bumper and bow which at present don't marry up as flush as I would really like! Perhaps due in part to rushing the balsa plug. Latex is also extreme sticky, flexible stuff but don't ask me or the missus how I know

Poke it with a damp toothpick (on the backside) to the soft part. Keep doing it till it gets firm. Takes a day or two to firm up this way.

As for mounting... More silicone. Just a thin film on the bow, then push the bumper on, and secure it tape till it dries. Don't deform the bumper with the tape, just enough pressure to hold it in place.

P.S.
I like the Play Dough idea. I used plaster and Vaseline when I made mine. I wonder if I could use molding clay instead (would silicone stick to it)?

Thanks for the valuable advice regarding the cocktail stick Guz
As for the moulding I spread a generous layer of polishing wax over the varnished balsa plug before pressing it into the play dough, this might also work for moulding clay or just wait for the clay to harden then rub either wax, vasaline or pva in the mould.
