Hi there,

Its been months since I last posted here, but it is great to see SeaDarts still being built and flown! I've been busy with some interests other than RC for o while, but inspired by our summer holidays I've recently built two new water planes that I thought I'd share. One is a flying wing and the other a semi-scale plane based on the Mermaid light sport aircraft. Both fly nicely, but the Mermaid has only been flown off grass up to now.

Marcel has given me the OK for the Mermaid KIt.

Foam only kits on 3 sheets of 6mm x 39 x 13.5 Depron.

I have placed the plywood part outlines on the foam
for use as a template.

Yep, that sort of stuff. Heat-activated, UV-resistant.

I just have the 3 mil stuff. If I need more thickness, I give it another layer. For the Sea Dart, the only places it would get more than 3mil would be the edges of the wings and some other spots where it would overlap a bit.

Not only does it make the foamy stronger, it keeps it looking nice. If the design can handle it, I try to laminate my nicer builds.

Good luck getting that stuff to NOT have bubbles inbetween if layering.

I would think LESS is better since it isnt necessary in the 1st place. 1.7 mil

Or are you trying to avoid the CF spar ?

Not trying to avoid a CF spar. Just want a rigid, nice-flying plane. The layering I have done has been on leading edges and along centerlines (overlapping to get 100% coverage), and control surfaces to stiffen them up. Two layers on control surfaces make them rigid as balsa and much less sloppy under load. No great drama so far.

Thats a good way to go.

I've been using Colored tape for similar effect.

I usually fly the stuffing out of Foamys so if they only last a season or two
I figure they gave their moneys worth.
If they die in a glorious and magnificent way ... C'est la vie !

There's always plenty of new designs to try next.

+1 on colored tape. I use the very lightweight tape from www.tapebrothers.com
Works really well.

CAREFULL WHATCHA BUY FROM THOSE GUYS.

Some of their tape is colored 1st surface not embedded in the adhesive on the back.
and it rubs off easily.

I have received a receipt for my forum membership request but
NOT the actual OKy DOKy

So I used THAT e-mail address to write to him explaining my/our intention.

SO far nothing and I have NOT been able to access any plans on that site either.

I finished with my seadart construction, it end up very light and only step left now is maiden flight.

Almost all equipment used was from other planes killed in action
here is the list :
2 / 5 gr HXT servos for ailerons.
1 HXT 9 gr servo for rudder.
Orange 6ch Rx .
30 amp Mistery ESC.
HK AXN 22-08 2150 kv motor (only new equip)
APCe 6 / 4 prop.
3S - 2200 mah 25- 50 C nanotech Lipo.

Hope to post a video next weekend and check final weight.

Just updating you -- the kit arrived and I now understand the cryptic remark about pizza boxes.

Just opened the box and checked the parts.
