I started to build this thing over a year ago and then put it aside for a bunch of other things. I finally drug it back out a couple of days ago and finished it up.

I hope to get out to the field this week to fly it from grass before I try water.

I got hold of some high tech material that will let air pass through but not allow water to get in to put over the inlets. I sprayed water on it and the insides stayed perfectly dry.

here are a couple of pictures.

OK Polaris, Sea Dart, or Aqua Cat?

What's best for a first sea plane?

The Seadart is easier to build than Polaris and also less expensive.

Balanced right, it is also nice and stable on ground and in the air
and does not have that fragile Motor in tail "thang". just MHO !

See the previous page for some answers to a similar question. The aqua-cat is also a nice one to build, it may be a bit harder to fly but is a very acrobatic flyer.

I agree with Lenny, build 'em all!

I'm liking the idea of the Sea Dart more and more. Has anyone built a somewhat SMALLER version of this plane -- say 75%?

Flyboy,

Check out Birdofplay's site. He does great CNC work at very reasonable prices. Veryfast turnaround time. It's worth it to me to have the parts cut neatly versus trying to print and paste tiled plans and cutting them out myself. I'd rather optimize my time in building so I can go from assembly to the field faster.

I made the 50% version and it's a great plane. It's quite the head turner at the field. Will take off from ground or water. Haven't flown it in a few weeks as I'm saving it for our June 3rd Float Fly. Lot's of you tube vids.

The build log in this thread is straightforward and simple. Give it a go !

Dahawk, do you have any pix posted of the 50% version? What electronics are you using, please? I'm a little leary of 3 mm depron -- is it too thin to make a structurally sound plane?

Thanks!

Here ya go ! Mine was 6mm depron. The Bird might have inhaling the vapors if you know what I mean...

My electronics are :
Grayson Hobby V2(2200kv)
30 Amp ESC
(2) Corona metal gear 9g servos for elevons
(1) Htx 9g servo for rudder/tiller
Futaba TX/RX

Make sure to follow the latest mods in the thread. One was the wedge profile for the ski. Also, one thing Bob has that really helped is an ultra slick plastic material to apply to the ski and outruuner floats. Kind of pricey but makes a big difference on ground take offs.

First time I flew it, I almost lost it. Had to re-teach the throttle with the ESC. All good after that. Plus, I had the expo's all screwed up Had Aileron -50 ( futaba is always minus) but Elevator +40. No ruddder expo. Pays to double check the TX settings.

Been a weeks since I've flown it as I'm trying to save her and keep her nice looking for our June 3rd Float Fly. My first and hopefully not my last attempt to fly off of water.

Some guys here that fly the wings off this bird. Find Otto's vids.

Good Luck !

-Hawk

To Whoever was interested in a 50% Seadart :

I have a Black 3mm depron set off parts here.
It was a cancellation so It's been collecting dust.

Normally $18 - $5 discount + S&H ! or ~ $23 for USA destinations.

let me know :-)
