I rushed through the first part of the build and used 1/4"x1/4" balsa sticks for the cross bracing instead of the 1/8"x1/4" on the stab, elevator, and rudder. Will that change the flight characteristics? I am thinking no.

No It shouldn't, its just making the tail a little heavier is all and once you get flying this bird your going to want the CG back there anyway so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Well I am making some progress with the Tweplica build. I cut out all the formers, made the elevator, fin, rudder, stabilizer, and most of the ribs. I can't wait to attack it again tonight!!!

Thanks, this is my first scratch build only after building a Goldberg kit for the first time earlier this year. I probably have no business flying this plane with only 2 seasons of flying experience but I have seen this plane fly enough to want one of my own.

I'm sure you'll be able to fly this plane no problem.

Oh yeah he'll be just fine with this plane, EBurk is one of our fellow flyers in our club and has a very nice touch on the sticks for the short time he's been flying, I see him drooling over the T40 when I'm flying it lol it was only a matter of time

He might have to turn down the throws at first before flying. After that? Maybe turn them up.

Great advice Balsa but I was thinking of giving him full 3D rates and beyond with those 20 quarters taped on the stab that we were talking about on the Twistaholics thread so he could experience the full capacity of fun right from the take off as that's how we roll in NY lol yes we will give him nice low rates so he can see how gentle and trainer like this plane can really be until he's ready to unleash the beast we all know it can be.

I wouldn't expect anything less Waldo!!!! After it goes down I am going to take those 20 quarters and put them towards a bigger bottle of Zap!!!

I am getting a little more excited!!

I have been buying most of my wood at Michaels and AC Moore. The widest sizes they had for 3/32" balsa was 3". The drawings call for 6" 3/32" balsa sheets for the fuse sides. I measured the template at the widest point and its 4" between F-1 and F2 formers. If I put an extension of a 1" piece on there, do you think it would be to weak? What about adding a doubler/bracing over that joint?

I also know I will have to put a piece on the back to extend the fuse to the tail what about adding a doubler/bracing over that joint as well?

Hey Eburk that would be fine I believe where you are on the build thread has pics and a vid of how to join the balsa to make the fuse sides you shouldn't need any doublers over the joints but it never hurts for added strength anyway after you put the xtensions on you'll know if you need to or not.
