Detrum GY48V Gyro

Please post your results with this gyro, setup information, tail servo selection etc. here.

The gyro I am referring to is available a the following US distributors:

http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dy-1017.html
http://www.xheli.com/60p-dy-1017.html

So far, the reports are mixed on its operational capability. However, some people appear to be having good luck, and the main advantage this gyro holds over the G401B is the low cost shipped from the U.S

I fired mine up to replace a 401B that is too screwy at times. Works pretty good. Slight drifting depending on headspeed (it does get affected by vibes, so it isnt just like a $$$ gyro, but still very good). I noticed the piro rate is quicker than a 401B, I needed to turn down the travel adjust on the gyro channel a bit to match what I normally like on that heli. All in all for the short time I used it so far, well worth the $15.00.

Setup...GY48 on a 450 scaler with raised tail/cable tail actuation, driven by an Align DS420 (we'll see how long that lasts with the load of the cable actuated tail, lol. Will eventually be replaced with a bigger servo)

I have that gyro. I replaced a Gy 401 with it after a bad crash. TheDetrum worked ok for a while. Funny thing is I had to run high gain to hold the tail and then it would break loose now and then. I mean 80 to 90% in HH. )n my radio 51 -100 is HH mode 50 is off and 1-49 is rate mode. I was running at 90 to 95 (90-50=40. 40 X 2 = 80). I had a fairly hard crash about 6 weeks ago and the heli only just flew this weekend. I had to go to 100% gain and then it just wagged around all over. Virtually no control. I believe tonight I found out why.
There was NO glue holding the inside of the gyro to the case. The PCB was loose and vibrating. On the bench it seemed super sensitive bu vibrating in the air it was NFG.

I put a little Gorilla glue on the edges and reinstalled the cover after wiping the pcb with a little silicone for anti-corrosion.
Time will tell but I bet this was the problem.
There was no indication of a seal for warranty so I would recomend anyone using one to open the case first and put some kind of glue in there to hold the pcb rigid.

i did the glue trick, absalutelly no difference on my gy48v. it still sucked.
i had it on a blade400 and used a 9650 and the ds3500g, still sucked.
plus my heli has NO visable vibration`s.

Hey, I'm a big n00b so I dont really understand but what sucks about it? It came with my copter x and I thought it was ok but really dont know what makes a good gyro and a bad gyro. I too had to put the gain on the remote to 85%. It seems to hold pretty well when I drop the throttle and then throw it back up to 100%.

mine would never stop drifting, tail would rotate 90 degress in less than a minute.
it would not hold when you really needed it to.

pitch pump`s/throttle pump`s the tail would hick out, i personally didnt like it at all.

So if mine holds fine with throttle pumps and I can fix the drift with sub trim on the remote then what would I gain with going to a better gyro?

going from a trim/sub-trim peizo gyro to a no trim/sub-trim smm or mems gyro cant be measured by word`s.
if you know no different from a good gyro and a bad gyro then you are not flying sport or 3d.

Hey, as long as it keeps the tail in back of the heli I'm happy, lol. Gotta keep with the theme of the airframe...dirt cheap. I'll leave the good stuff for the FBL models
