FPV beemer in Bond flick "Tomorrow never Dies"

Hey guys,

Yesterday a cable station was running a James Bond marathon. I'm not a big Bond fan at all - although I thought the new Casino Royale was decent. Anyway, my wife was checking them out, and they played a bunch from the 70's and 80's, Roger Moore - god they were awful! So cheesy. But then there was one I've never heard of before, Tomorrow never Dies, With Pierce Brosnan. It was really good, great action and much higher production values. Even Brosnan does a good job. Check it out!

Q gives him a BMW sedan with all the bells and whistles. On his cell phone he has a remote control for the car, complete with an lcd screen showing video downlinked from on-board cameras. Basically an FPV setup. No sticks - you had to use a finger pad to control it.

The baddies are trying to get James in a parking garage. He starts the car remotely, and as it is driving by at high speed, he rolls down, and dives through, a window into the back seat. He then proceeds to drive like Steve McQueen around the parking garage ramps, evading the baddies and blowing them away with various on-board rockets, machine guns, deploys all kinds of evasive measures, etc. He's hunkered down in the back seat, sliding around while he's whipping it around curves, all the while he watches where he's going, fires the weapons etc. using only the video downlink, controlling the whole thing with the little finger pad.

Totally implausible, of course, but it was pretty much the coolest car chase scene I've seen in years! What a guy, that 007 - he was able to do all that, for life and death, without putting in a minute of sim time even. And the funniest part was old Pierce - he was throwing in all the right body english, and actually grinning like he's having a blast, and I was laughing my butt off! I won't spoil it, but the finale was way cool.

Yep, seen em both.

The old one with the guy in the wheelchair was with Blofeld flying the heli FPV, he was an enemy from a previous 007 flick.

The title is "For Your Eyes Only" 1981, with the FPV heli in the opening scenes...

yeah i was checking the net as i remember it was for your eyes only.
movie from 80's.
i love all those sci-fi future-tech gadgets in the movies. cuz later on, those imagination toys might all turn to real shopping items.

i wish soon in the future will be releasing mind-controlled vehicles. i bet this can be real. saw something on tv before to help those disabled person who can't move their hands for doing things.

Ever seen the movie "FireFox" 1982 with Clint Eastwood?

It features a mind controlled Mig 31 Russian fighter.

offcourse seen that too
but what most unforgetable scene is that super low pass above sea level.
remember that water splashes like crazy?
for quite awhile i always think that's real. apparently as time went by, i realized that was just an effect to symbolize that plane was extremely fast! well... i guess in the physical world that's really not fast enough to make that.

speaking of low pass. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1119265 it's low pass and the flights are mig-31 alike.

Yep, now that you mention it, I remember the Blofeld heli scene. And Firefox, saw taht in the theater (showing my age).

Still, didn't you think the beemer was the coolest? I don't know, something about it just blew me away. The whole flick really; there's the opening scene where 007 infiltrates this remote mtn. base, steals ****, jumps in a Mig and dogfights his way out - better than most.

Like I said, I like the new ones with the new guy, going for a little more realism (I said "a little"!)/less fantasy. But that Tomorrow flick - really brilliant. The action scenes are way over the top, but produced so well you can almost suspend disbelief. And some really funny stuff too. If anybody hasn't seen it, I recommend adding it to all Netflix queues and bump to top.
