Now that is the sort of country I love to fly in.
When we get our FPV sorted out it will be in areas like that!!

As for criticism... screw it.. I just wish it was me... that's enough criticism.

It flies again.
I fitted the landing gear extensions (6 mm carbon square tube with rubber feet tied to the old gear) and also mounted the video transmitter antenna upside down to try to get better reception at longer range.
Did two local visual flights to see if everything was working okay after the crash then just did an FPV one. I'd forgotten how difficult it was! To be fair it was pretty windy though.

Nice one mate! I am putting one together myself shortly - am just waiting for the bits to arrive!

What size motors did you use?

It's all just standard DJI gear.

Edit - apart from your FPV gear, of course!

Cool. I plan on running 6 of the Carbon Bird motors - Only because I have them sitting in a box and thought I would use them. Might be overkill though. 750Kv I think.

Hey guys, let me introduce myself

My name is Zac and i live in darwin. I mainly fly imac but i have wanted to take part in fpv for a while now and I was in katherine over the weekend and an IMAC buddy of mine said he had some gear he barley used. I scored a set of base edition fatshark goggles and a 900mhz set from hobbyking (guessing around the 200mw range)

I have some average quadcopter experience and have a (HK) dji 450 frame, would this make a good first fpv rig?

Also, I want a close range set up (as far as i can go with stock futaba 8fg transmitter) plane, what would be a good aircraft for this. I also want it to be able to carry a hero 3.
Any suggestions?

Cheers
Zac

I do not believe that CASA are on a witchhunt..sure, I imagine they have their sights on the morons who potentially endanger lives, but if you're flying in the bush, I don't really think they're interested.

Had a great day yesterday with the Hexacopter, learning more all the time, jeez that Naza is something else...one of the resident "experts' came out to lend a hand..I was really peed off that my 5.8 was breaking up at 30m, yet his identical setup was good to 900m....so I copied his TxRx settings & BINGO.....I have been running the VTx thru the GoPro but the results are not good so I've ordered yet another one of those brilliant cams from security camera2000.....My fixed wing FPV has been thru the fatsharks, but after using the mates 8" screen from Foxtech, wow! I just ordered one for the HEXA....you just need to be able to glance up occasionally

I used these T-motor 2216-12 KV800 Motor (TMOTOR 2216-12)
with 1047 Carbon fiber propeller CW&CCW (1047CFCWCCW) props...Ihad to do some slight balancing, but the whole thing works a treat on 4S 5000..flight time 7mins, using 2300 out of the pack...I haven't worked out how to adjust the voltage yet,so could get more time.....I got all the bits from Foxtech.....the hexa is a great machine.
I got this landing gear & gopro holder....

MUDUCK - I did look at that landing gear! It looks like a great bit of kit - but I would have to buy the GoPro gimbal as well as it states it does not come with it- and then it gets expensive!!

You dont have to mate, as I found out after I bought both
theres a flat plate that you can attach the gopro to UPSIDE DOWN..you dont need the gymble, as a matter of fact, I have hot glued the roll axis solid, & only use the up-down movement of the gymble

Ahh..I see what you are saying. But will it line up good enough - I guess it would if it's nice and flat and level.
