Hi guys, i am currently decking out my new EPP FPV plane.
I have a fair bit of the equipment already too including a decent sony camera and a 900mhz 500mw i got from RV a while ago. Also have the eagletree and with the osd bit.

Just trying to decide if i should get a gopro or some other device for the video.
Also trying to decide on a good budget set of googles too.

I should have the last bits for the plane build in the next week, and i might even try to make the Canberra meet if i can for a look.

BUD - If weight in not an issue then go the GoPro and use it for Live AV out at the same time. That is what I do now, and have never looked back.

If you need to watch the calories, then have a look at the FlyCamOne HD. I will have more stock in a week or so. Very light at 58g, but the field of view is smaller than most.

You after a FY-21AP. I am using a FY-20 but just today ordered a FY-21AP.

I only got the base edition (probably a mistake) but I have a spare EagleTree OSD which seems to go with it.

battery question

hey all im still working out what to put in my skywalker workrd out i'll go the 900mhz 800mw vid setup servos still have no idea, osd the same, but now looking into batterys going the 3s with a seperate ubec for all the onboard gear but what to get for the motor looking at 5000mah bats so whats better 5000mah 6s or 5000mah 3s was thinking 2x 5000mah 3s would be the same size as 1x 6s so how is it worked out when it comes to volts/amps to the speedy sending power to the motor? what will give the longer flight times?

totaly confused lol

Hey mate,

Haven't fpv'd there but have done a fair bit of gliding and sloping around there.

Cheers,

John

ozzimadman....You sound as confused as me....Electrics are all smoke & mirrors to me as well, I'm used to 4S Saitos..I've been giving the skywalker a hammering as well..jeez it takes some punishment..even when you put the prop on back to front!...I'm using the standard motor that comes with it, a 4500 battery, ubec for radio,& separate 1300 battery, tho it may not be big enough....I'm going with 900mhz 500mw..still researching the rest.....

Try these engines out. Appears to be what people are using:

3536-1300 (3c)
3530-1400 (4c)
35-36 1100 (4c)
35-36a 1400 (4c)
42-40a 1050 (4c)

A 6s battery (6s1p) means it has 6 cells (at 3.7v) hooked up in series. This gives a combined voltage of 22.2v (fully charged at 25.2v), which is probably overkill for the Skywalker . You hook up 2X 2500mah 3s in parallel to give an equivalent of a 5000mah 3s.

Its very easy,

If adding cells in series, voltage increases (3.7v for each cell added) , mah stays constant.

It adding cells in parallel, Mah increases (the value of both together) , volts stays constant.

However, when combining battery PACKS they are a mix of both series and parallel. When adding in parallel it is essential that the batteries are of the same mah and cell count (only hook up identical batteries) or you can damage the batteries.

So to your Question, 2X 5000mah 3s will be the same as a 5000mah 6s (22.2v) if hooked up in series. If hooked up in parallel, it would be a 10000mah 3s (11.1v). Higher mah means longer endurance. Higher voltage means lower amps, higher motor RPM, higher watts. Most of your battery choice depends on your motor/prop/esc choice. If you haven't got a motor/ESC/prop yet you should probably have a look on the skywalker thread and see what other people are using.

I would run a separate BEC for servos and RX etc.., for the video system, you can either regulate the voltage to a constant 12/5v (depending on your system, or if it works at LVC, you can run an LC filter and just have raw voltage from the battery (assuming a 3s battery and a 12v video system)

I hope within my ramble you find some answers .

Regards

Doug
