The version 2 micro-kite has flown...with its COG at 70mm, it is perfect in some ways but lacking in the roll... It flies very slow and gentle.. loops are fine, but I didn't dare roll it..it was floating round a bit faster than a Vapor at less than half throttle , very smooth, but the cold was again lowering the power from the tiny lipos.. full power at home had given me good vertical , but in our unheated venue the vertical was not possible..
conclusion .. if you want something nice and easy , but a bit more aerobatic than the Vapor, this version 2 will do nicely.. however please go with the geared motor setup and not a brushless on 1 cell for the better performance.. or use a 2 cell setup to uprate its aerobatics

On its first flight it suffered a midair, colliding with a much bigger 2 cell 3D model. and crashing to the concrete floor... but it all bounced and I was able to right it and then fly on with damage to the covering..see the pic..
Funny the 3D model flew on , then within a couple of seconds its prop disintegrated in a loud buzz... it then crashed...
So effectively I won that round....lol... with no damage to my kites frame, and a flyable model, despite it being now tatty...
next time I must remember to take some tape...

the version 3 model will not be built, I am going to a smaller, slimmer and faster shape to get more aerobatic ability .. a version-4

Hehe! Call me old school but I just designed a P-51 profile plane in MS Paint

When finished she will sport a:

Spitfire AS3X brick
Spitfire 4 Blade prop and spinner
2x 1.7g HK servos (How do you guys think they'll cope with the AS3X )
KFm2 Airfoil
260mah 1s 35-70c
6a BL ESC
1s Inrunner in a gearbox
Huge control surfaces

If my calculations are correct she'll be heavy, around 50g, and its a fraction smaller than UM Mustang (very close to the same wing area though). I have no idea how the BL inrunner will go, but I'm hoping for around 70-80g of static thrust

I am using the 1.9gr HK5330 digitals in planes with AS3X and so far have had no problems. Just need to change the servo connectors.

They are digital right? Then they should work.

Once I make a little more progress a built threads definitely on the cards

I've printed out my plans on A4 paper, and with a pen, ruler and whiteout I've rounded off the pixelated lines. Now their ready to be scanned back in as PDF's, so I can begin the build soon.

Now if some of the parts would be back in stock on HK I'd be laughing

Thats good to hear, hopefully the 1.7g servos will hold up too. I have some linear servos but they the same weight as the 1.7g servos, and I think the 1.7s are the better option.

Finding those little connectors is a PITA, have you found a source? Previously I've just chopped the connectors off linear servos, but I'd really like to buy just the connectors themselves.

Yep they sure are Thats reassuring

EDIT:

Plans are coming along well I have the PDF's finished, I just want make the prototype to ensure everything fits together well before posting them

The aim of this build is indoor 3D performance with AS3X. It should go pretty well outdoors too though

If you cut it out of cardstock you can do glide tests which would help find the CG. Though with a conventional model like this you probably already know where the CG is.
