The only problem is that the recording quality is not as good as the hard drive unit, but very acceptable though...

Would you know how much recording time you can get on the JXD990 in hi resolution?

thanks

14" screen and DVR in one unit

Anybody ever tried this:
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/3817...elevision.html

It's a 14"inch screen / TV and can record directly on a USB key.

For about £/€100 or US$150 you get a big screen and recording device at the same time.

Recording format? quality? screen brightness (300cd/m²)? are those any good?

Hmmm that would be great for the FPV pilot that uses monitors.
Funny it makes no mention of the resolution it records at.

Since its an LCD Monitor I would venture to bet it will blue screen on signal loss though.

There is an 8GB memory expandable to another 8GB, so 16GB in total. A fully charged battery will last over 2 hrs, you are more limited in battery time than memory. the following is a video recorded at low res. It looks much better on the JXD !

Nearly gone.wmv (9 min 34 sec)

I have one. I'm happy with it.

I like the "one touch record"... very handy, easy to use.
galaxiex - would you recommend this as a recorder? How does it handle static? And how do you transfer to your PC?

Yes, I would recommend it. It records through static just fine.
No "blue screen"

It won't start recording until it sees a valid video signal...
but once it has been supplied with a video signal and the recording started, it continues to record even with complete loss of the signal.
In other words... it will record the static of a bad signal, or no signal at all.

Record resolution is not as good as using some other devices, but it does record at 640X480 30fps.
Which is the best we can transmit anyway...
I rate the record quality as "acceptable" Your standards may vary....

One issue I have seen...

The audio sometimes gets out of sync with the video on longer recordings.
This doesn't happen every time... I don't know why, or if there is a "fix" for that.

The "one touch record" is very handy...

If the recorder is close to you while flying, you can start and stop the recording by touch.
Don't have to remove goggles to operate it.
Practise first....

This breaks up a long boring flight into manageable segments, easy to edit, "fixes" the audio sync problem, and lets you record the "interesting" parts while not recording the boring stuff your gonna cut out anyway.

Although... some people record/post very long, boring vids....

Some over 20 minutes... I won't watch those...

Attention span too short...

Most/many people won't watch long vids, if you want people to watch, keep your vids to less than 4 minutes...

Oh yeah... transfer to PC...

It comes with a USB cable that you just plug into the comp.
Your comp should recognize it as a drive and you just drag/drop the files...
The USB will power the recorder...

I have my recorder mounted with velcro so it is easy to remove from the ground station.
Don't have to lug the whole GS to the computer.... simple...

They say they do not sell this anymore. They have a similar looking unit, but it's just for storage and playback, no record.

It says 4gb micro sd maximum.

Also will it record for 1 1/2 hours with 4gb and the internal battery ?

I'm still looking at the SATA hard drive case/recorder.....

One thine I have to have is a sturdy unit that can stand some vibration. I plan to use it on a motorcycle with a bullet cam. Not racing, just road ridding.

That's where it's hard to beat the BR3002 (silver one with the buttons on it).
Not only can regular laptops take quite a lot of vibration these days,
the price of SATA SDDs (Solid State Drives) has come way down, and if
you drop one of those in there, it's pretty much impervious to vibration and shock loads.
I've got a 64GB SDD in mine, and I use it for recording track videos in my car.
One touch recording on the devices itself is also critical if you want something you
can start/stop while riding/driving/flying without having to look at it, or fiddle with
a remote.

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone who stocks them any more. Seem to be a lot
of wholesalers listing it, but no retailers.
