You can go all the way up to a class 10 card (10Mb/sec). That's what I'm putting in my Go Pro.

Hi Group,

I have received my EMPREX BPR101. Installed a temporary 2.5" 80GB IDE HD. Had to re-format the HD from NTFS to FAT32. The emprex will only record to a HD with FAT32 file system.

I am using a Cyclops CEOSD. The OSD text fits on the display and is recorded all ok. That is the OSD is not clipped. Video quality in loop AV-IN to AV-OUT and also the recorded video is about the same quality. Quality is acceptable but not perfect. There is some streaking and loss of fine detail on the VDU screen. Large contrast transitions eg video black level to white level in the picture leave a faint streak on the display. PAL colours are good in both the recorded and feed thru mode.

I am planning to changeout the 80GB HD and use a IDE/CF adapter and 8GB CF card. These CF cards I understand are already compatible with IDE drive architecture and can be formatted to FAT32. The CF card have much lower power requirements from DC 5V compared to a conventional magnetic spinning HD. Also CF card is a lot more resistant to rough handling.

Any reports of successful recording when using a CF card would be appreciated.

That would be a cool solution.
IDE hard disks are expensive compared to their memory size.

Maybe i will use such a adapter:

or from DX:

I have more SD cards than CF cards.

6.5GB? That'll store about 90 minutes of video.

Dunno what's with the obsession with trying to use SD cards and such.
Yes PATA is more expensive than SATA but that's just supply and demand.
A 2.5" PATA/IDE 160GB drive is a bit more than 50 bucks.

And yes, all DVRs I know of, use FAT32.

My interest in the SDHC card route is that the assembly should be much lighter to handle and should require less amps to operate.. Other than that a HD would be good.

I have been doing a static test with my Emprex. It works OK and recording looks good, but I powered it with a 12 volt gelcell and used a spare ESC and the bec to get the 5 volt. The ESC got very hot in fact I could not hold it for too long.
What other simple way is there to reduce the 12 volt to 5 volt?

Was that a switching BEC? I figure not right? If so, get a switching BEC. Hobbyking sells one pretty cheap, but any switching BEC should do.

No it was not. It was just a 20amp ESC and I used the Servo lead.
I did not know if a plain UBEC (Switching BEC?) would be the same.
I will try one Thanks.

I'm powering my VuPoint with an old brushed ESCs BEC. It runs on little power though and the BEC gets just a little warm. I'm sure that running a HDD on the Emprex certainly draws more current.

most standalone UBEC's have an amp rating. and I think the emprex draws 2 amps. dont quote me on that and remember it depends on the HDD you put in there.

So if you add about 0.5A (USB max) - 1A you are at the limits of an usual BEC, which probably is rated at 3A.
If you use a high number cells battery (3s or more) the BEC works even more. In this case try a 2s pack.
Be careful, because if the BEC is well done it could happen that it shut off for ovecharge (no more video ). If it is a bad one it will simply fry (no more BEC ).

why are you adding amps? 2 amps full draw dude. A 3A Ubec will be plenty. 5A's are also readily available.
