It llooks very similar internally to my k2 digistor I bought last year. Quite like it, but doesn't compare to the minidv.
Can confirm that one records through static, can use SD card instead of HDD. +5v supply, Two buttons to record - one to power up, second to record (from remote if its a problem...!!)

BlueAngel - what bitrate do you get on the highest quality recording?? I wonder if that is the same

Thans BlueAngel - I think it's the same unit as mine, but with a different case. We are talking about the white one (http://www.okbuynow.com/25-inch-sata...qpi0jj1bi299i3)
I posted a review of it some time back. If anyone is interested, here is the detail...

I'd give it 7/10 compared to 10/10 for a minidv for quality

For use on plane (board removed)....
The board can be easily removed from the case.
Can be used on plane with just SD card - yes !!
Weight - 40g for board with SD card. !!
Board Dimensions - 131*75* (5 mm typical, 12mm max)
Power supply - 5v supply required
Could be used with SD card on plane or solid state device with SATA interface
If weight is less of an issue, could be used cased (135*80*20mm).

For use on the ground....
Takes standard 2.5" SATA or SD card
Metal case - able to withstand reasonable punishment
Supplied with neoprene edge protector providing further protection

Recording....
Continues recording with static - yes. Tested 10 secs
Continues recording with no input - yes. Tested 10 secs (Requires input signal to start)
Can record without screen attached - yes. Using IR remote. Requires valid signal to start.
Can record without need for PC - yes.
Can record and output at same time - yes.
No options to save in different formats or change recording detail.
Led to show when recording.

Recorded test file data from PAL capture...
Data Rate: 4.5-5Mbps
XVID codec in AVI container.
2GB = 1 hour recorded video

Misc...
Can plug straight into TV/panel with RCA to playback recorded flights
Power supply - 5v supply required
2 sets audio cables provided. 3.5mm 4 pin stereo round to 3*RCA
Comes with mains 5v adapter. Common 5 pin round center positive
Can also be used as USB storage/media player/photo viewer etc.

Recording steps without a connected monitor...
Power up the unit by pressing main button
Wait 5 secs to complete startup process
Press the record button on the remote
Verify recording led is on
Press Exit on the remote to stop or Rec to start again

Issues found:
1 It will not record from my mono 600tvl cam. Suspect the cam is out of tolerances though. All my other cams 420-550TVL work)
2 I couldn't directly read file from Adobe CS4. Sony Vegas is fine as is avidemux and virtualdub. Potentially just a codec issue.

I am worried that maybe the 250Gb drive I have IS the issue. Could you maybe tell me what make of HDDs you guys are using successfully, and their size? Maybe a model number?

That's easy to test. Simply remove the drive, plug in the A/V out and boot it up.
It will boot normally without a drive. If you still see nothing, then it's broken.

Does anyone with the e-Bay recorder know if having this inline with a monitor will help prevent blue screens? I would think that since the signal from the receiver is being recorded and is then being output to whatever you connect to it, it would have a constant signal to keep it from going blue. That is assuming the recorder can output in real-time. If that's the case, then I would definitely like to pick one up as I could just use any sort of DVD player or small LCD screen. Can anyone confirm this?

Excellent. I'll probably pick one up soon then as I was worried about the blue screen. I would like goggles at some point but that will be after a while so now that the blue screen issue can be rectified with this recorder, a portable DVD player will be in my near future as well. Thanks!

Hard to find but can be had off eBay between $99-130US. It uses the same video encoder chip (Zoran) as Nikon L18 camera. Examples show good quality 640x480 even at low bitrate.
-the built-in 2.4GHz receiver/antenna useless past 300m
-beware of similar looking KS639 which is worthless.

Can record and view at the same time but only on the LCD OR on the video out.. only you can see or the person next to you at the same time.

An update from me and my faulty BR3002... Recorder posted back, took two weeks for them to say they have it... Been 8 days since then, and they are 'still testing'.
