It seems a bit bulky any heavy, can it stripped down? I wonder if the screen and internal camera can be easily detachable.

I've converted tens of brand name still cameras and no name car dvrs for onboard recording, it always comes to 30-40gram once powered by ubec and case/LCD removed. When I shop for dvr I look for one that doesn't use touchscreen and no buttons on LCD panel so it can be removed completely..
I'm sure this DVR can be reduced down to 30g and av-in Y-cable connected to normal CCD cam ,TX and the DVR. would be awesome to record rear view in case some birds decide to attack and of course front view gets recorded simultaneously while HD DVR has no effect no video link in case the DVR decide to die or change screen because of bad card or voltage

it can record digital CMOS and AV-in simultaneously thus can be used onboard and as ground recorder.
I just lost auction, will bid another one - don't outbid me!
Are you sure that external lens connector is AV-in?

Item description say so also pictured 3 pin coax connector (3.5mm? power, ground composite video), no way 3wire thin cable 5-10ft long can carry 720p digital video

I sure would love a how-to tutorial on this conversion. Next time you do it, shoot a YouTube video. That would be great!

just split av_in, better than av-out with its added latency and OSD garbage

CCD output split into av_in and other wire to vid.TX, if you can remove 42-75Ohm resistor inside transmitter'sav_in then you don't need video buffer, video TX will transmit your OSD, not DVR's.

That's an interesting price, $23 with free shipping!

First picture below specs clearly shows "AV IN" port. Too bad it hasn't av out.
It says "Microphone Support" and "Build-in stereo Support". Could it be that the AV connector uses one pin for common power and audio?

I'd love to see some photos of the split and resistor. I video tutorial would be fantastic.
I know it's time consuming and a lot to ask, but it would be great.
