The foxtech recorder is listed to record 704x576 video, so if I input PAL from rx (720x576), will it cut off edges of video? And lose some osd info?

Do they both record full static?
Considering prices are very similar, what is my best option?
Oh, and what class SD card is required for best quality?

Not sure if anyone else has posted a review on this one, but I just received one this week from an eBay purchase. It’s the Angel Eye Mini DVR KS-660M. I can report that….

Pros:

• It records through static
• It can do real time output to monitor or goggles and eliminates the blue or black screen of death (for my test devices anyway)
• Time & Date stamp can be removed from the recording.

Cons:

• Onscreen display such as battery condition icon, recording icon and date & time cannot be removed from the display, these things take up valuable space on the screen that I would like to use for my aircraft telemetry.
• Cannot display on the built in LCD screen and output video at the same time.

I’ve only done some basic tests and have not tested recording quality or frame rates yet.

If anyone knows how to update the firmware on these things please let me know, If I can remove the on-screen display it will be perfect for my needs.

Test videos will be uploaded after Easter.

RowdyRod, can you check if yours has a 30min record limit?
Also very interested in seeing recorded footage. Fwiw I think Alex (IBCrazy) uses these or a similar version...

Thanks for this thread, here is a small comparison I made of my two recorders (The Foxtech SD V1.3 and the DVR-DV01 "5.8GHz pocket ground station").

as for onboard recording car dvr has too many advantages compared to composite DVR:

Cost 3 times less + you get wide angle camera
small cameras easy to pan tilt
way more detailed video
tiny TF card never jumps out if plane bad landed - no corrupted recordings
there is always option to set motion detect -very useful !
no worries about card full - old files get overwritten
cam/dvr easily powered via servo pins, no step-up needed for camera
automatic start recording
weight with camera 30-40g.

Records 320x240 at 25FPS, would be ok as a basic recorder to see where plane went down, but I wouldn't like to use it as a proper flight recorder with intents on using and uploading the video. Don't think they mentioned anything about static.

Wow, that is pretty low resolution. As you mentioned...good for helping to find a downed plane, but not much good for actual video/posting. Of course, so many are using on-board HD cameras for video anyway.

Correct. On board hero2 takes care of the quality thing pretty well. Useless if you can't find it though in a pinch.
