NEW Paper Canopies - Walkera 4G6 (4G3, and others?)
Thought I'd share some paper canopies I made for my Walkera 4G6. They could be shrunk for the 4G3 too, but I haven't really tried it yet. Keep this bookmarked as I plan to add new ones periodically.
I started with the shape design I saw from Jaimerioco, changed it a bit, and will do various color schemes. Very quick and easy to glue up; I plan on having a bunch of designs.... different schemes for different sky colors or mood
"Phantomic" may be recognized as the famous Canomod "Phantom" design. The other is my original work.
PDF format for most.
Directions: Print in high quality color, borderless or 100% scale print settings. It may get too small to fit well if printing shrinks it. The PDF is actually 98% size right now, because when I did borderless it over sized it!? I am not a paper crafting master and am new to this. I got good results when the canopy total width on paper is 5 3/4 to 6".
Paper: I used 45 lb semi-gloss HP photo paper with good results. Finished, they weigh 2 grams. You can try other stock paper. Let me know if another page size is needed.
Glue: You can use tape, but I now use Elmers wrinkle-free washable glue (orange). Just have to hold it together ~1min to dry. Then do the nose tabs.
I put a small piece of tape behind each mounting hole and trim around the "ears". Make the holes just big enough to push the carbon thru. Can use the grommets also...
You can bend and shape the canopy a bit, or lightly crease the sides near the landing struts for slightly different looks.
1/20/10 A new "PhaseWon" design below. Also brought up the last one to this post. Also there is a plain white outline of my shape if anyone wants to use it for anything.
1/23/10 - "Scorcher", a 3-color-flame on black design.
1/25/10 - "CarbonCan", simple carbon texture, 3 variations.
NEW 1/29/10 - "Ninja" canopies. Red and Blue windscreen variations.

WOW - those look really sweet! I can't wait for the printable version.
Any recommendations on the type of paper stock?
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! Now attached
Thanks for the compliments, I enjoy making them.
I just flew them today and they look great. Phantomic shows up better on a sunny day than expected and the red looks great with the red blades!
So you guys can experiment with paper and printers... comment about it... I can make changes if they are needed.
If you have special color combination or design requests, feel free to PM me. Check back later for new designs. Happy flying!

Mr. RPM, thank you very much! They look awsome. I'll print them onto glossy photo paper, nice and strong and shiney. I'll post some pics on my 4G3 asap.

So did anyone have trouble printing these to scale or slightly under? I about have a new, high-vis one ready and could change the size if needed.

New One - 4G6
The JPG is zipped and is slightly better quality than the PDF.
Thanks and enjoy.
About 450 size... interesting concept.... I saw one in the 4G6 'thoughts' thread, but never heard of paper canopies for bigger stuff before. I don't think I would do it right now, maybe. Would take heavier paper and I'd put a clear coat of some sort.
