24mm diameter fits perfectly in the motor tube of 64mm and 55mm GWS fans

Or a larger outrunner with the proper adapter.

The Don's Wicked is a reasonably priced outrunner that gives good performance in the EDF64 on 3s. One of the jets I have the motor in, that has an EDF64.

these:

are a very reasonable EDF unit for $20 !! Sure there are better motors but Not at anywhere near this price.
If you feel the lust for mo' power these motors are easily rewound.

Just don't believe the specs. If you get one with the correct Kv motor then it will pull close to 30A and may produce over 600g thrust on 3S.

My test data

I was considering using this EDF in my first EDF build. I'm planning on, at least starting a Mirage 2000 over Christmas break. As it's my first build with an EDF I have, what is probably a very basic question about it. It's got a pretty big lip around it's intake side, should I build the internal ducting of my jet to be the same size as the lip or can I cover it up/cut it off? What will it do to performance?

Thanks guys, and sorry for jacking your thread lilpip.

+1 for these fan/motors. I have 2 and you cant beat them for the power they put out for $20.

EDF work better with intake lips so if you can keep the lip you will get better performance.

I guess what I'm trying to say is; because the Mirage will have internal ducting, and it's own kinda intake lip around it's intakes, is it really necessary to have double intake lips, one on the plane's intakes and one on the EDF's intake?

You only need one lip, at the plane's intake.

The main purpose of a lip is to maintain smooth airflow at low speed (when air is sucked in from the sides of the inlet as well as from the front). However the EDF64 still needs its lip to stay round, so don't cut it off unless you are sure that the duct will support the fan well enough to prevent distortion of the shroud.

1 edf GWS F15 worked

Bruce:
your estimation you gave me was right on the money. I had a Hobby City 25 C 2200mAH 3S pack, CC PH45 controller, two servo(HS-82MG) set up, minimal paint and a single 64 mm EDF with a Century Helicopter 20mm "hummingbird" brushless motor. It ROG'd off my dolly on the first try with a head wind. 4 subsequent attempts failed. Handlaunched the next 5 flights. On the fifth flight the motor died and I dead sticked.Battery was barely warm, motor was hot, and plane flew ok. Slow but with probably enough speed to roll, but not loop. I didn't even try diving then a loop, it just didn't have the power.
When my more powerful motors arrive from HC, I will see if the single edf will loop or not.
