Just did a quick test in HH mode and the tri was wandering all over while I held it and then the motors would not shut off. I setup my Optic 6 as per Reflex's suggestions.??

By the way Reflex1 your pencam test showed what seemed a very steady flight in HH mode.

Spoke to mike earlier today Paul (nice guy) calling up to see him tomorrow so should be good to go, on a side note I got my tri spinning like a top after work today... What a buzz cheers Paul
I'm really pleased you built your own tri,I reckon most on here will too, once they test your setup.

capt. Try testing each Arm individually in HH with the other motors Off (as my first Vid)
hopefully it will show where your problem is.

Data Indoor flight on 1300Mah Batt.

I set the swash mix @ 80 on all 3 points and the Tri flew in HH mode but not well, still very twitchy and wandering around even with the gain turned up. The gyro's are in DS mode but they just don't feel like they are responding fast enough to do a good job of leveling the Tri. When I switch it back to rate mode they are rock solid and respond instantly. The tri in HH mode did feel like it wanted to self level like a Tri does with a flymentor but this will take some more tuning for me to verify and right now I don't want to crash my only flying Tri. I almost have my new carbon Tri ready (thanks Johnorama!) so maybe when it is flying I will revisit HH mode.

Reflex1 does the Tri self level when in HH mode, for instance if you slap the stick over and let go will it return to level or keep on going as it would in rate mode?

No. it won't self level
HH does what it says, if you set a bank angle
HH keeps that angle against wind gusts etc.

In your example it would stay at the angle it was when the stick got to neutral

it responds to Pilot input and try's to keep the Pilot set angle.

80 on pitch sounds way too high , have you set the Cyclic Gyro's to Full travel ?

I don't think Rate and HH settings are compatible on a Tri
My thoughts are you should set-up for Either Rate OR HH
(just a Gut feeling)

I'm looking forward to looking at Keith's settings (already in Rate mode and flying well)
Converting that to HH may well provide some answers.

I have the limit set to full on the pot and end points on the 3 swash channels at 125%.
I am using a second model setup so it's easy to switch back to my rate mode model with out messing up all the settings.

Great ! try these settings (Futaba FF9)

Swash AFR
Ail 20%
Elev 20%
Pitch 60%

Reset all 3 swash channels to 100%
Cyclic Gyro Gain around 60%

Expo -40 on Ail and Elev

These are my current settings and are very "Soft" flying

I have been plagued by intermittant motor cut out to the point of nearly abandoning the tri.

It could be any of the motors. I noticed that some of my bullet connectors could swivel when connected, others were tight. I theorized that a connector that could swivel could also momentarily lose contact.

I found I could solder the bullet end solid to its base so it could not swivel and this seems to have solved my problem.

Now maybe I can go on to better flying without the worry of motor failure.
