Thx for your input on my gain question.... Will try to get out again tomorrow and give that a try
Thanks AC5FF and RR!

When I bought a red hulahoop my little boy liked it so much and played with it.
Haha...I had to sneakily cut it into three pieces when he was not around.
After that I bought another one for him.

I stand corrected. Would you happen to know the model and Availability of the motor used? Bet it would make an exceptional tricopter motor!

My build blog here.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...23&postcount=1

A total success, no damage sustained, not even a prop! This is attributed to the bumper, the foam landing gear and foam base. All this despite a windy day, leaves in the trees were swaying.
I had a lot of altitude excursions, suddenly up and down, due to the windy gusts and my inexperienced handling.

Thanks signguy and others for your help.
I experienced that near the end of a battery, before the Lipo alarm is even sounded, the tricopter motors are unstable and causes a twitching action.
This has nothing to do with gyro gain as it is stable throughout. This does not happen when the battery is fresh. I suspect the low voltage to the BEC causes the receiver, gyros, esc leads to be underpowered and glitchy.

1. Should I go with a separate battery for the BEC, maybe a 800 mah?
2. I can add a resistor to the lipo alarm to make it sound at a higher voltage by thinking it is at a lower voltage.

etman, congrats on the maiden. Those bumpers look great, I'll have to make a run to the toy store to get one.

Hi Sebastian,
Looks pretty stable for a very small sized tricopter compared to most other tricopter videos I believe you used the old Wolferl UAVP v3.15 tricopter firmware for the mini-tricopter setup in this video? http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...3#post11709393 I would like to suggest that you use Prof Greg's latest UAVX v1.891 firmware. You would have to upgrade your PIC to the 18F2620 to use the UAVX firmware. If you can't source and burn your own PIC, the 18F2620 plugin replaceable PIC processor is available preloaded with UAVX firmware at www.quadroufo.com for $15. The parameters have been rescaled and are somewhat different from the old Wolf UAVP firmware. Also for smaller quads and tricopters with less than 20cm motor to motor on axis spacing, the I2c ESC's, which the UAVP board can also use, might be more appropriate for even smoother flight. The standard ESC's such as Turnigy Plus, HCSuperSimple and Towerpros do fine with motor spacings greater than 20cm motor to motor on axis.
Cheers,
Jim

I bet you could get a wooden or foam frame together before the other one arrives.

I agree with Bob - So easy to swap out frames once you have all your harness's made - I am almost done with another one dedicated to 2 gyros and FMA copilot - Decided it will be a good one to work on my forward flight with - I bought some of those RCtimer motors and while they are lacking the same power that the DT750's have they are working ok - Again trying to go as light as possible - I have removed most of the bullet connectors in hopes of saving a little weight - -
