New 3d yak 54

Heres my freshly built Yak-54. Everyone out there- build one! One of my best fliers so far. I've got it balanced so it hovers with ease... and coolest thing is it'll do hands-off inverted!!! Truly one of my best fliers. -Tyler

Setup:

-dollar store "foam board"
- Rhino 1050 3S
- 4HXT-500"s
- AR6100E receiver

Ok, so i used this cheap combo:

http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...mbo-p-619.html

these servos:

and this battery:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0C_Lipoly_Pack

So $20+15+7=$42. But that's not including shipping. Add only $2-3 for the foam. So without receiver ( got a AR6100 for 36.99 at bigskyhobby) its around a 50-60 dollar plane. It is one of my best fliers. I am currently building the bigger 36 inch version. It is way larger. But a lot lighter, so it should be a great floaty 3D. Oh yeah, if you order that combo you might as well get 3 or 4 just because they are so great. I could hover my yak-54 on less than half throttle. I'll put up pics in my blog when I'm done with the 36' version. -Tyler

p.s. NICE NAME!!!!!

Ha, I know right? but wow only $50 that is a steal! does the 36" have 4-Channel control at all? Seems like this is a seriously bang for the buck plane!

How's it fly outside?

It's definitly not an indoor- too big. But it flies amazing outside. The 30 inch was my best flier so far, did everything I asked it to do with ease. Did inverted hands off. Th 36 inch im building will be bigger but lighter so it should fly even better! I just need to put the wings on and glue the esrvos in and I'm done! -Tyler

I just thought I would let you know that your Yak inspired me to get a foamie! I'm so excited to have a small, indestructible, cheap plane that can be stored in my college dorm! I'll be building it over Christmas break.

BUT, instead of a yak I found a 3D Bipe, the Infineon i3D. It is a beautiful plane and very capable as is your Yak!

Just thought I'd let you know!

Is it EPP? Because for beginners I'd get that. And I have a bipe- you'll get a lot better nice, slow, flying characteristiscs! -Tyler

Yes it can EPP or Depron. It is a scratch-build type kit where the planes are in a forum here at RCGroups. You can modify anything you want but I deffinitly am getting EPP to make it!

And yes 3D bipes are so great for their characteristics! That's why I love them so much!

Yup, I've got one biplane and it flies so slow and perfect its amazing! the only thing I don't like is it's made out of like 2MM depron so it's super easy to break so I have to be gentle with it. -Tyler

Wow that is thin! The Infineon i3D is made from 3,6, and 9mm EPP with CF reinforcements. It is a very creative design and really like the shape of it. Should be a blast to make and fly!
