The "Foo Fighter" UFO-AP BIPE

Here's my first attempt at a UFO-Bipe. It's a 36" disk with a Magpie wing. AUW with the FX37 and a 2250 3S Lipo = 46.5 oz's. 1503 sq. in. of wing area. (4.45 wing load.)

Since this worked so well as a proof of concept, I'll be stepping it up to a 48" disk and a larger wing. Not sure what that will be as of yet. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys.

Ian,

Drag and extra lift = slower flight Should be fun as I scale it up. I'm sitting on a new MWCores (Shameless plug for Jeff.) 16"x80" Clark Y. Maybe I'll use it for this?

Hmmm... 48" disk = 1808 sq. in. 16"x80" = 1280 sq. in. Total = 3088

...Yup

Starting the 48"er tonight. One thing I'm doing different is the center & front spars. Instead of using the black poly strapping on both sides, I'm using CF arrow shafts just on the top. They're a lot stiffer. Found a free source at my local sports shop. The owner gives me his broken arrows.

Have you considered simply stacking two ufo's together? Think of the wing area..........

Think of the drag .....also you get a drop in lift IF they are 2 close 2gether and the turbulence of one interferes with the other...

Yeah... I've thought that one through. I would have to agree with Ian that two 48" disks would be too draggy not to mention the CG issues you'd have along with extra bracing, etc...

Randall,

Try sticking one of you 2M glider wings on one. What I'm doing is trying to locate the CG of the upper wing in line with the disk's CG or just behind it. (Negative stagger)

Mine is set up a lot different than yours Tim. There wouldn't be any way to add a wing without adding additional superstructure. I've got a few irons in the fire myself at the moment.
I'm waiting on an epp eagle and I'm also redoing a few of my other planes, making mods and improvements. We're also installing a towel closet in the bathroom and xmas shopping and all that and this week I put in 68 hours at work so I'm allready pretty busy...........
I can hardly wait for that eagle to get here. I've been wanting one forever. Lately I also converted a Global Fokker DVII from glow to E power. Check out Randall Huston on Vimeo and you can see what all I've been up to lately.
I'm also waiting on some aluminum landing gear to get here to add some positive stance to my own ufo so it'll take off quicker.
Geez..........never enough hours in the day..........

Foo Fighter 48

Was able to put a few hours into the 48"er tonight. Will easily finish tomorrow and should be able to maiden Sunday depending on the wind. I'm going to use a 15.5" x 72" Clark Y for now as the larger Clark Y isn't finished yet.
