I am taking an aluminum extension ladder that I will use as a walking plank on top of the back berry bushes. I will also take my sword to cut back other vines to gain access to my precious plane who suffered in the cold and wet night

I've found hedge loppers to be great for this kind of work- sometimes you don't have the room to swing a machete. GREAT idea on the ladder, btw.

Why not year round flying at peterson butte ,I see its over at the end of may. Is it because of fire?

Yes, because of fire danger. And the wind shifts to the north anyway, and Peterson is a south slope.

All is well that ends well

Put the aluminum extension ladder on the roof rack and went down to PB. Wife came alone for moral support. Once we got their in the rain, it was off to the rescue. One half of the ladder on top of the bb's the other half down the back side to the base of the tree I hit. While going down the second half of the ladder, there was my SloipeStream tucked away in the BB's. Use some handshears to cut away the vines and extract the plane. Wing in tact, still bolted onto the fuse. Lost the fin, broke the stabilizer, damaged the fuse but it will fly again. Wing in great shape, only lost one aileron which I found yesterday. There rescue took all of 15 minutes since Hoddy Pants had located it for me yesterday.

Good deal. You were lucky you could get close on the ground. To retrieve Mick's back then would have required a 100+ foot ladder...

There were 5 of us flying today at Peterson Butte. Wind was strong, turbulent, and not huge lift. I suspect the air was too stable, maybe even an inversion causing lots of mechanical turbulence.

But we had fun flying all sorts of planes today.

Vic, Joel and I stayed till the end of the day. The wind got lighter as the day went on.
DeJa Vu from two weeks ago when we were there. The good news was it never rained once, and the sun was out too. We had to wear our sun glasses to see the planes....colder than a well diggers rear end though.
Had a great time even with the light air. Got a chance to really dial in my new Stinger45
What a fun little plane.
Hoodypants brought his Ninga with a camera attached to the bottom of the wing. He flew around taking pics to see if he could spot his downed glider in the plane eating black berry bushes.
Two hang glider pilots showed up and both made the Sled Ride down to the bottom of the hill.
All in All a great day with good friends.

A Pilebuck Kinda Day

Like Tim said a great day of flying with good people at the Butte today. I think Tim will agree the forecast this weekend was a real nail biter. Wx sites had conflicting data on when the rain was going to hit but looks like we got it right; the rain has started and the storm is moving in overnight.

I spent more time tuning my Ceres. I think I can show up now and just enjoy her. She's about 97% sorted. I'm amazed at how well it flew around in light air. (As Pilebuck laughs... The only thing that would have made me feel more at home was the classic Pilebuck, "toss 'er out Vic -- she'll fly" )

Great to meet you again today. I seem to recall we met last year as your occupation tickled a memory bank in me. Anyway, a hang glider pilot showed up after you left gave us his business card. He is a "landscape demolition expert". (Tim aka A6 and I had a few laughs over that title.) He offered to help make a path for you into your plane if you find it with your photo recon today. Hi Guy's, It was great to meet all of you today also. PDX thanks for getting the info on the "Landscape Demolition expert" I not if I will need him though because i found it on the recon video, and it is closer to where we stand at the edge. It looks like it is about 10' in or so from solid ground near a tree and it looks like there is kinda a path already that a pair of loppers will handle.
