Ready to dodge hail and rain tomorrow at Peterson Butte. The lift should be fantastic, but the moisture factor is a concern. I'll not be bringing my ASH-25 because it is wood veneer wing and I don't want it to get wet.

I am bringing:

Le Fish foam plane.
DG-1000
Seagull (hollow molded) -- yes, it looks just like a real seagull. (Major repair now ready to fly again).
Victor 6" slope racer.
AldiiJ -- 2.5m slope racer.

I think tomorrow could be good .... or it could be a lot of waiting while the rain comes.

The good news is that the rain is supposed to be very heavy shower periods followed by no rain. And the lapse rate is really good too!

Monday is looking good too! Fewer rain showers and still good strong SW winds. Sunday is the only day without flying I think, unless I go to the coast. Anyone up for Cascade Head?

On Saturday, it was great flying. The winds came and went with the rain/hail showers.

Flyable from 11AM to 2:30pm. Lots of lead needed from 11am to 1pm, then fly the light stuff at the end.

It was really good and I flew 4 of the 5 planes I brought.

Monday Feb 20 PB report:

Arrive 0930 and fly til about 1pm or so with just 1 shower interuption.

Then the rain comes (with Pete) and just stays with us. Fly in the rain until soaked thru and then come home.

Wind was always good, (SW about 18 or so initially, then 10 or so at 2:00 PM)

Still drying out...

How not to land at Peterson Butte

Got too deep on approach in very strong winds (probably increased to 25-30 when I was ready to land) -- couldn't penetrate back...

On viewing the video I'm not sure why I pitched the nose up like that-- my perspective was very different from the ground--

One lesson may be that it would have been better to stand much closer to the road, I would have had a much better perspective on how deep the glider was at any given moment...

Everything ok with the plane Steve? I've been there and done that before. I like to land east/west sideways to the hill then turn into the wind before set down. That or I dive down to lose altitude and do a wide circle to the left then turn into the wind well before the south side of the road.

Damage is mild but may need some more expertise than I have to make it all the way right... rudder control horn was torn off and there is only a very small surface area to reglue back,,,

Yeah it wasn't my intention to be behind the road at all, not sure how I got so screwed up... ballooned up and one thing led to another... I like to land fairly near the road and I think I could have judged it better not standing so far forward...

The little keychain camera was just taped on and landed very separate from the plane, lucky I found it at all...
