Does anyone want to go to PB tomorrow (Nov 17) ???

Weather is:

Quote:
Showers. Temperature falling to around 39 by 5pm. West southwest wind between 11 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday also looks promising with SSE 10MPH, drier, but with possible snow.

I bet it's good right now, not raining, I might go up there in a while, if I can remember where I stored away my rc gliders for the summer... Steve

Peterson Butte: Maiden Flight of "Twist-N-Shout"

Peterson Butte today was pretty good between occasional rain showers. Pretty much as predicted for wind.

I did the 1st flight of my newly-built "Twist-N-Shout" which is twist-wing, blingeron, 6061 airfoil, with the split rudder for speed brake.

I got some short sorties in with the 2-m Spider between showers yesterday and today--

What is a "blingeron"?

Pat just coined that term... it's a wingeron or pitcheron using the winchdoc's "bling" for wing-twisting hardware. Clear as mud?

Mach1Rodent

Ive been finishing my old Rodent fuse and my old Mach 1 wings .. Thinking about a full wingeron with a fixed stab or should I do a full flying stab with picheron ?
any suggestions??

Pete

Peterson looks great on Tuesday anyone going?

Pete, pitcheron is the one with the fixed stab; the wings alone control roll and pitch. Wingeron controls roll only, and a separate elevator controls pitch.
For Mach-1 wings on a Rodent fuse, I'd go with wingeron and full-flying stab.

A slightly different opinion than Dieter's:

If you are going to the trouble (and benefit) of putting in twist-wing rods in wings, bearings, driving mechanism, etc .......

You might as well run it with 2 servos and do both pitch/roll with wing twist. (i.e. Pitcheron)

It is a shame to do all of that work and only get roll control out of it (i.e. Wingeron).

I agree Tuesday is looking very reasonable and I might be there.

Given the moment arms and weight of a typical Rodent fuse (long nose, short tail moment, heavy fuse), I think a separate elevator will have a crisper pitch response. The Twist-N-Shout has a nice long tail moment, making it a great candidate for a pitcheron.
Good to see y'alls hovering over the weather forecast to figure when to go. Looks like it's raining hard at the moment (4:20AM in OR).

Holy cow, it's been blowing 20-25 on the valley floor all morning, with little rain (so far)! I can see Peterson butte right now and I'm not looking through any raindrops... Steve
