new spoilers for scale sailplanes

Hello Folks

I just found this spoilers that come with an integrated actuator (kind of an inline proportional servo):

http://www.topmodel.co.jp/150_1869.html

Elektrische Landeklappen (1 min 5 sec)

I think this is a very good idea.

First you don't need additional openings in the wing for normal servos that are linked with conventional spoilers. Installation in a wing should be straight forward.

You don't have to do cumbersome linkage between a servo and the spoilers.

Two of these spoilers should move synchronously automatically, so you don't need any mixing on the radio (or adjustements on the linkage).

Best regards:

any dealers in US?

The web site given is Japanese, yet the video is German. Do you know who the manufacturer is and whether there is a dealer in the US? Looks good to me, without the slop I've come to deal with on other metal spoilers.

Those look a *lot* like the Graupner Teck brakes w/ linear actuators added. Like the idea. Wonder if the choppy actuation is an operator thing? It looked a little rough to my eye.

Look forward to a report,

Mike

EDIT: I take the "choppy" comment back. I listened to the video more carefully and they look and sound fine. Great idea.

Very cool. BUT, what if the motor fails after these are built into a model, when a servo goes bad you can replace the drive mechanism, but these look integrated, I would hesitate using them because of that.

I thought about that also, but I have never had a servo fail on a spoiler. Usually the spoiler, servo, and wing has met an untimely end so I don't have to worry

The third paragraph thoroughly covers replacing the actuator:

<データ>
全長:(全幅)300mm(電動駆動部含む、リード線含まず)
重量:38g(コード含む)
動作電圧:4.8V〜6.0V(ニッカド、ニッケル水素4本パック)

Hi,

Available in Germany at Staufenbiel HERE and equiped their latest gliders, like the ask13 (very nice one by the way! )

A bit expensive for a pair of 250mm IMO...

They are Pilot brand. At the current exchange rate they are a little over 105.00 US$ a pair. Not bad for the set up, considered a pair of Graupner spoilers is about 40-50.00 and 2 servos.

And you would still need a hole in the bottom of the wing to access replacing the motor, until I see one I'll stick with a servo driven sytem. Neat idea though!

Maxx products had them at the I Hobby Show in Chicago. Only one size, but he said they are working on a larger version.

Was there a price on them at the show?
