Suggested mods for the Fenice for better control
Well ..I like the slow flying characteristics of some other ornis ... like the Silverlit I-bird or Airhogs V-Wing avenger ..and Ireally wonder how Ican make the Fenice fly at slower speeds ... it may make it more controllable ...
I'm looking for mods that are not pricey and doesn't include using a tail servo for the tail .. because that will require a receiver , speed controller ,and a servo ... What about changing wing geometry ... .. playing with CG ..maybe change gearing ...I really appreciate any ideas thanks a lot Khaled Last edited by khaled_abobakr; Nov 11, 2009 at 06:47 AM. |

You might slow it down a bit, by the following modifications:
1. Extend the tail using a thin depron. 2. Shift the CG aft, eg by moving the battery. 3. Cut the wing along the midline and splice some material in to widen it slightly, to provide slack. However, the two-winged ornithopters will inherently tend to fly much faster than the 4-winged counterparts. |

You could also try removing the body to save weight. Lighter wing loading will result in slower possible flight speed. Good luck!

Yes, Tres's modification is probably the most important of all! As for my #3 the idea is just to put some more slack in the wings so they can deflect a little more under load, and take on more camber. I've found this allows a slower flight -- but also requires a more rearward location of the center of gravity, hence #2. Simply cut the wing down the middle, then tape the two halves back together, adding a small (1/4 inch or so - experiment) gap between the wing halves. The gap should be greatest at the trailing edge and taper to zero if you extend the lines to the leading edge of the wing.

4 winged Fenice with wing deflection control ??!!
Well
Here are some suggested mods for the Fenice ... since I'm stuck with it ![]() 1- Convert the Fenice to 4 winged orni using the spare wing set 2- Using the tail Actuator to deflect the wings for steering instead of the tail like the I-vamp Any tips or hints on the how to .. are greatly appreciated Thanks a lot Khaled |
