If you want to build a sp 400 version, here's how to do it. Buy one of the K&A Spitfire 22 models with the beautiful fibreglass fuselages. That fuselage is a far better model of a Spiteful than it is of the Spitfire. I talked to Ken Williams of K&A at the San Diego Winter Electrics and he admits this. He said he is planning to release a kit of the Spiteful using that fuselage with a new wing. Failing that, buy or find a copy of the free plans published in one of the Traplet publications of a Supermarine Attacker jet (Chris Gold's design). Supermarine used the Spiteful wing on the Attacker so the Attacker plan's wing, slightly scaled up to fit the K&A fuselage will produce a delightful model of a little known (and very cool) British fighter.

Many thanks
I'm surprised for such a quick answer. Many thanks to all.
I own the Clive Smalley plan & want to build the model as a scale, so I was looking for info on the true Spiteful, both good plans (including sections), pictures & colour profiles. As far as I know, the body is the same as the Mk.XIVE, wich is an easier subject to find. I'm gonna look now for this links. Regards, |

I can't say that I agree that the Spiteful used the same fuselage as a Spitfire XIV. I'm no expert and my reference is the old Harleyford book "Spitfire-The Story of a Famous Fighter", but the book states and 3 views clearly show that the Spiteful and Seafang had a deeper fuselage with a larger tail. Both aircraft had a different, more angular wing and were clearly new designs with only a superficial resemblence to the Spitfire. Gerry |

Gerry, the Spit book by Stewart Wilson states that, being the wings completely different, the body is taken from the XIVE (E for the buble canopy), XV (Seafire) & 21. Maybe I should have a look on another books...
