"Roughest thing flying". Show me your pics.
I used to go to car shows back when I had my hotrod, and there was an event called "roughest thing running", where the car that looked least lilkely to start would do just that.
In RC airplanes, you will see people come with all manner of flying machines, but when you see the guy drag out his ProJeti with epoxy running through the foam like veins, a crushed wing, canopy made mostly of electrical tape, and battlescars from numerous landings, you just know that bird is a favorite of its owner, and it will fly like none other. We all like posting pics of our pristine airplanes right after we finish covering them, but what about the old standby? The one you just keep in your trunk and fly whenever the need strikes? Show me some planes with character. The kind that have been broken, stepped on, cut up, modified, but most of all, loved. Bring on the pics. -=PT=- |

Tigermoth
LOL!
My Tigermoth has 300 flights on it and to see it up close you'd swear it was more packing tape and hot glue than foam (and it probably is). Stand 15' away it still looks fine (and flies great with an S300 and two lipo power!). But I have to wear a bag over my head while I get it out of the car and up into the air. They all laugh until I fly it around upside down maintaining 30'. Don't try that with your pretty boy Tiger Moth! Here's a recent pic! |

Melfsmite - ouch, my eyes!! Being a proud American and a gentleman I will not take offense at that display of red, white, and blue.
Pork, survive the earthquake ok? Didn't feel a thing up this way. |

Melf, I recall seeing pictures long ago (perhaps a year ago?) when that plane was shiny sparkly new. I'm glad to see her still going but it's amazing the difference a year can make

You know, I was about to post a pic of my "well worn" Wingo, but it isn't close to Melfsmite's pic. The Wingo is the only plane I've ever owned that disintegrates on landing. I'm sure it weights a ton more than it used to. It's a total flying jigsaw puzzle. Most of it is 5 min epoxy now....but it still looks pretty good. I think the only thing I haven't broken is the prop! I do still fly it.... and repair it . <g>

Aw Tres! Now I don't know what i'm missing My Cub... It was still fairly new. Notice the hunk missing from the prop. Elecrical tape to hold the battery in. The leading edge of the wing chopped about a half inch of foam off the fuse when powered nose first into the gravel. I love plane. - Bil |

WOW, contest was over before it got started. I can't imagine anything being worse off than Melfsmite's Moth and still flying. Good job keeping her "airworthy'.

I think there should be a new contest, previous winners not eligible. Melfsmite's moth is in a class by itself !
Theflyman2 had me fooled - he gets a special prize for "Roughest thing that doesn't exist". Larry |

Woohooo! Now if only they gave away prizes in magazines to "the most beat up peice 'o crap you can fly" contests I could finally win something!
I really should take a picture of her inverted at 20' then ask someone to beat that! Still, I KNOW there are worse things out there. Heck, that picture even makes my plane look good! You can't see the lower wing cracks at all and only barely detect the tape holding together the outter portions of the top wing. But I'll wait for others to chime in before posting less flattering pictures of my TM. ![]() Melf PS -- Plase note that we are trying to create a faimly friendly site, and photo's of aircraft like this are best shown were little kids will not get the idea thats it's OK to own such an aircraft...
