Looks like a nice day for sailing despite the cold temps. What a beautiful ship, Paratrooper!

Thanks for the great pictures and video! Always fun to see the Surprise on a mission - Doesn't have to always be firing at the Colonists - Routine patrols are constantly appropriate. Lake sailing conditions here apparently are unable to decide whether to stay liquid or to change to ice. Ice seems to be winning, but largely unstable. Unusual winter.

Hope you & the 1st Mate had a great Christmas, and wish you a grand new sailing year!

The forecast was for some snow--and I seriously considered going to the lake to try to get some video of the ship in a snow squall. After seriously considering it for maybe an hour, it was agreed between the captain and the first mate to scrap the idea. It is too cold to be playing in the water. I am content to remember the YARD SAIL a year ago.

Lets hope it doesn't end in the same way. Really a pretty sight Paratrooper. And from a warm living room no less. Way to go. Pete

17 March 2012

Magnificent day at a different lake. Winds 8-10, sunny and 72 degrees--for 17 March it was quite extraordinary actually.

I did manage to tangle in a guy's fishing line who was sort of out of sorts with it even though he cast right in front of the ship. Enough sailing on that lake....

Well here are a couple of pickies of today's sail--always the same but with a different set of canvas aloft. There are only so many views of a ship at sea......

To all who might be interested:

My model of Surprise will soon be making a trip around the cape to San Francisco and a new captain will soon be aboard. It has been great building, sailing and participating in this thread but I will be moving on.

We have decided to go into 1-1/2 scale railroading and my first ever project is building a flat car to get some idea of how all this works.

Thanks to all of you who sent positive responses to my postings.

RG

The steel grey sea's loss will be the steel rails gain. Thanks for the wonderful photos, movies, and discussions. Wishing you Green signals, Ray.
