Crazy, nice work. I'm not familiar with rc sub, will you have videos of it under water shooting the torpedo? I wonder how FPV would work under water.

I've looked at this kit several times in the past as a relatively inexpensive entry into the underwater R/C realm. Do you think this sub could be made into a static diver for pool use?

Tom

Noob question, what's RX/TX range when under water? For air with a good 2.4 systems, in theory, is about 3 miles... never tested it but that's also what some people claim.

Merlin,

That is a question without any good answer. The best that can be said is that it depends. Brackish water will reduce the range, salt water is a no-no unless you isolate the electrical system, pool water with chlorine wil affect the reception. Generally, when you run submarines you are skimming or slightly below the surface. Any deeper and you probably can't see it anyway. However, if you can see it, 10-11 feet would not be unrealistic, given ideal conditions. However, Engel submarines have built in failsafes that stop them from diving any deeper that 1.8 meter (5? feet)

For a submarine, you never want to use a 2.4 ghz radio. It just won't work underwater. 75Mhz, 27Mhz, or 40Mhz are commonly used for submarines.

Heres a couple of pictures of my Engel Lafayette class boat we ran at Carmel a couple of years ago. One shot shows it about 3 feet underwater and the other shows it skimming the surface at periscope depth.
