Reflex XTR Please Help!

Hi all, Ben here,. long time reader, first time poster etc..
I was wondering if anyone could help with with my Reflex xtr. I have had it for 3 yrs or so, and recently tore the cable from the rs connector which plugs into the usb dongle
I have a new rs connector, but cannot figure out which pins the two wires need to contact in the connector before crimping. Can anyone help? BTW, I purchased the JR version of reflex to use with my JR Tx, however when I first got it home I had to reverse the connections on the Tx jack for it to work.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. Have emailed Wolfgang from reflex and the new reflex distributors but they dont seem to want to talk to me....
p.s anyon know much about version 5.0.5 or XTR2 ? good, bad, indifferent?

Sorry Ben, no idea how to crimp the wires. Fortunately, I never had any problems. But you may ask the guys on RC-Sim, guess some of them could help. Info on the other (tx) end is here. The USB dongle should be transparent so you at least see which contacts are used inside. Now there are two ways to attach the two wires...

Upgrading is another way to get your Reflex working again. If you have already the red dongle (with Reflex 5.04) you'd need no new dongle and cable, though, only a software update.

Version 5.0.5 is good, of course, though you may not need or appreciate all features:
online multi"player", as well as online updates,
new models and sceneries (Wasserkuppe),
even better flight physics,
faster graphics with better light/shadow, rotors, and smoke trail,
better sound including wind and glider/airplane/helicopter sound,
better tx calibration and up to 12 channels.

Maybe the best: These up to 12 channels can be assigned to controls as one sees fit. That way now even spoilerons and similar special controls work. You may even render your real models in the simulator and fly both real and virtual models with the same tx setup, as I do with my thermal glider.

thanks for the info burkharde, I might have to upgrade I think.
With regards to the dongle, it is the transparent red one, but the rj 11 connector (it looks like a 4-pin ethernet connector) plugs into the back end of this. Into the back of this gos the two wires for the cable. On a new plug (rj) the pins are up,..you insert the wires and use a special crimping tool which pushes the pins down onto the wires. Just cant figure out which two pins the wires go to.....im sure it was 1st and 3rd......

Really Ben, before spending 99 Euro for the dongle update (instead of 20 Euro for new software only) you should ask on RC-Sim. There are several people who could simply check how the wires run on their dongles - I have the iVol, different cable.

Tried rc-sim, emailed wolfgang (?) and sim-werks which appears to be the new distributor for reflex, so far no response. Possibly very busy, but also they state they no longer support reflex so prhaps he is getting a bit tired of answering questions all the time (can you blame the guy?)
I've just realised im thinking of reflex-sim when I say rc-sim. Havn't tried then yet, will do so directly. Good Idea Burke, didn't think of that! *slaps forehead*

Thanks for your help again...

Their proprietary dongle is the only way they can protect their software from piracy, oh so they thought. You break your cable or download an illegal copy of Reflex and you are on your own.

Hardware protection is not the only means, but generally it is a better means of protecting the software from the average home user as you need to be able to program PIC chips, once, assuming you can decipher the encryption as the PIC in the genuine interface is code protected.

Having said that a few years back someone was offering "compatible" interfaces, so it is possible to break the algorithms and come up with compatible code if you have the knowledge and tools. In this case Wolfgang tracked him down and legal action commenced. Not only that, but customers of this person also received letters requesting the return of the compatible interface plus $50 or face legal action too. However now that Reflex Sim is owned by a new distributor, it's not clear as to what lengths they will go to protect the product.

Reflex (when owned by Wolfgang) used to offer a no quibble replacement, irrespective of its condition, provided you could return the original dongle. Again, it's not clear if the new owners continue this tradition.

Ahem, perhaps I need to clarify. My Copy of reflex is a legally purchased legitimate copy. It was purchased in 2007 from the hobbyman in dandenong ,melbourne australia for $359.95. It is not a pirated copy. I am not trying to crack anything or rip anyone off. I simply tangled the cable around my foot, and tore it from the rj connector when I stood up. I have purchased new rj connectors from Dick SMith electronics, and am simply asking for someone to please look at their JR version and tell me WHICH GODDAMNED WIRE GOES TO WHICH PIN? THERE ARE 4 PINS AND 2 WIRES. ONE IS WHITE, ONE IS RED!
I dont want stories about how this guy downloaded this and cracked that, and wolfgang got the cia and tracked him to an internet cafe in istanbul, which caused a diplomatic standoff and the cafe got a cease and desisit issued against them and everyone got fined 43 euros and blah blah blah. Please, someone just look at their dongle and tell me which wire goes where.
A little help is all I asked for. It seems for $360 aud that aint to much to ask.
p.s Dont anyone buy reflex in the future. ZERO SUPPORT. ZERO HELP. NOTHING BUT PIRACY PARANOIA.

Might be not paranoia but simple chaos as well, who knows. But it would help if you could find out which version you have. From the purchase date it seems it's 5.04 with the red dongle pictured here. There seem to be two wires inside the transparent red case, the middle ones. Even if you don't see into your dongle there is only a limited number of ways to connect two wires to four pins. Why not try?

A good point burk, but there's at least 16 combinations of wire input between the 4 pins and two wires and only 4 rj's in a pack, at $16 a pack, I would prefer to have some Idea before I go hunting. Also wasnt sure if an incorrect connection would damage the usb dongle or anything else. I think I have version 3.04 but the dongle is the same shape as the blue one on the page you linked me to but it is transparent red colour with the reflex logo in it. ZThe wires in question go into the RJ connector which lugs into the rear end of the dongle. It looks like an ethernet plug with less pins(narrower). I lost the other one before I could examine it and see if any wire stubs were left inside to see which pin they were on. Thanks though for at least suggesting something constructive.

The two wires are ground and signal,

My guess is that the red wire is signal and white the ground, and to keep them separate the outer pins would of been used. For testing purpose why not simply crimp a bit of 4 core cable (or 4 wires) to one of the connectors and then connect ground to one wire and systematically touch the signal wire to the remaining three to see if it detects the TX

My comment regarding copy protection was aimed at Gino's post not yours, and the comment that Wolfgang would replace any genuine dongle for a new one regardless of its condition.
