Muffler

This will most likely be my first gas plane. Don't know lick about gas, I see there are several options for mufflers. What is the most popular, sounds best, or best for performance. Secondly, which will have more power in this plane, gas or electric.

gofly - On most gas engines, you have a choice of

stock muffler (small, light and loud)
Pitts style muffler (little bit quieter, little heavier)
Canister style muffler (lives inside fuselage, very quiet)
"tuned" pipe (long, expensive, more powerful, quiet)

We're working to have all of those options for the 72". More details to follow.

the DLE-30 produces about 2500 watts equivalent, about like a good 8S system.

We'll just throw some smoke bombs in yours and that should work.

Please enlighten me, all the 8s systems I've seen(in my limited research),are putting out 2000 watts or less without over amping the lipos. Any suggestions?

I'd really like to have my electronics purchased prior to the planes release.
That's why I ask

My Reaper GR60XL has peaks of 2000watts on a 6s with a 18x8 prop and averages about 1875watts (at 86A). On a 8s, it should be pretty easy to get 2500watts on various motors without stressing any decent 25C or 30C 4000-5000mah pack.

I'm thinking of this plane on 8s. How does this combo sound: (2)4sRhino 3700 25c, Ice 100 using internal BEC, Scorpion 4025-16 and HS985 servos. Would the 4035-330 be a better choice? Thanks. Matt

Is ICE 100 good to 8S? What's the KV on the Scorpion?

The ICE is supposed to be good to 8s, the ice lite to 6s only. KV is 332 and 330 respectively

I would do alot of ground testing before using the internal BEC on 8s. You'll be pushing both the ESC and BEC to their limits, which means lots of heat. You'll have to choose your servos carefully and make sure that there is absolutely NO binding in your setup. Keep in mind that the internal bec is rated at 5 amps max....and I don't know what input voltage that is rated at. Max bec output goes down as input voltage goes up.

Probably easier and safer to go with an external BEC or seperate Rx pack.
