Robbe Pitts Special

Has anyone out there finished a Robbe Pitts? After ten years, I have finished the kit. I have a Simprop electric motor with belt drive (Model Airtech or something similar) using an APC 12x6 prop. Battery is a 7 cell 1200.

I hooked up a Watt Meter between ESC (JETI) and the battery and only got 90 watts starting out - dropping quickly to 75. I don't have a scale but the instructions predict 1450 grams which I take as 3.2 lbs. Rough ratios of 60 watts per pound would indicate I'm low on power. Or, is ther some false reading in the watt meter?

Will this fly?

I'm flying mine on an Aveox 1406/2y and 10x2000 SCRs. I wouldn't want any less power that I get (about 400 watts) for this type of airplane.

Greg, if that battery is 10 years old as you've mentioned the kit is, I'd suspect it wasn't quite up to the job. The older 1200's I've seen are the ~same size and weight as the 2400 NICD's available now. It may still work with a few charge/discharge cycles, but I'd replace it with newer stock if it were mine. You could get a ten cell pack of the new CP1700's that would be ~ the same weight as your 1200 pack. Cycle your pack a few times and see what it does.

Thanks for the replies. This leads me to more questions.
1. Is it acceptable to hook the watt meter between the battery and ESC?
2. What are the AUW for your planes?
3. Do you leave the wheel fairings off?
4. Where do you get your CP1700's and who makes them?
Thanks in advance for any information.
