Mark all threads read on exit
I recall setting such an option quite some time ago. I've been having to manually mark all Forums read before exiting.
Is the option to automatically do this gone since the upgrade? |

Yes, I'm afraid so.
But I can guarantee you'll learn to love the new system. Previously if your browsing session was interrupted and you haven't read an interesting thread, the unread status would be gone after exiting the forums (and even after a long enough pause in the forum activity). Now the system remembers the threads you have read, and most importantly, you have not read, so you always have a choice of catching up with the unread threads later. I'll move this discussion to the Site Chat. Last edited by Mike Kolesnikov; Oct 29, 2009 at 03:36 PM. Reason: moving |

I am learning to love it.. What you said certainly makes sense Mike...
One change I would like to see though, make a button that is a single click "Mark foum as read" and put it at the top and bottom of the page. Currently I read down the page, get to the bottom, then, instead of just hitting "back" I have to scroll up to the top, then click the "forum tools" dropdown, then click "Mark forum as read" If I had a button at the bottom of the page that I could just click, then hit back, it would be ideal. -Jay |

This is certainly the only major irritation I've yet found with the new stuff (haven't found many benefits either but hey, it's early days
).There were problems with the timeout but having to remember to find "Mark forums read" hidden away under the "Search" option is a real pain. It's also annoying that it insists on taking me back to the RCGroups main page which I never use. Can't it remember that I came in from My RCGroups and guess that I'd really prefer to go back there ?Steve |

I agree that it is a pain to have to remember to mark as read manually. To have to read down every thread to see if/when a reply has been added is very frustrating. Hopefully this is something that can be changed. Other than that, Good job.
Thanks |

OK, "mark forums as read" is a pain...but it solves the problem..at least for me...maybe we could put that in a more conspicuous place???
Thanks, Bill |

Mike, PLEASE... little button up top, little button down the bottom.. "Mark forum read" The dropdown at the top is really annoying.
Most people will come around if it's easy to use. -Jay |

The new software seems to be working just fine as it always has in regards to thread & post counts.
I'm using SeaMonkey with saved password, never log out(just leave the site) & have the "remember me" box highlighted. The login box will show when I was last at the site & the threads & posts will be highlighted for new posts since last I was here. Kevin~ |

Is vBulletin owned by Microsoft now? Microsoft loves to add features that require more clicking around that previous versions of the same product did with less. Perhaps they could combine some of these functions with keyboard keys, so one would have to type something and then use a mouse to click a confirmation box?!

I think I will come to like the new system in this regard. With the old system, it would sometimes mark everything as read while I was typing or researching some long post. Now I can mark the forums as read when I am ready to have them marked. I do agree that buttons could be placed at the top and bottom of the pages rather than making us go through the procedure outlined by CyberJay. This is, after all, a very common button that we will want to frequently click on. |
